I have a 2012 prius c that was wrecked and I have it repaired now and the engine start battery charged but when we start it it makes a weird noise and the engine runs very ruff then it will smooth out but then it dies also the picture on the dash shows like it is trying to charge the hybrid battery then it stops and the engine stops any body got a idea of what I need to try next other than loading it up and taking it to the dealer ?

Does disabling the traction also disable the VSC? and others?

well.. the engine only runs when you first start it to warm up.... afterwards it's normal for the engine to shut off.

The dealer gets a charger from the Region. This trip won't be cheap.

Traction batteries don't like to sit for several months.

The dealer should be able to tell you how to go about getting it charged.

I can't guarantee tonight my speculation is a viable solution.

I think that if it is possible, connecting the HV battery of a donor "C" in parallel to the HV battery in your "C". No need to remove battery from donor car.

It's too late tonight, I'll see what I can learn tomorrow.

the traction battery.. with all of its crazy circuitry... would not be able to connected in parallel to another battery easily.

the hybrid battery charges via the ICE... if there's fuel in the car... then the engine should run to charge the traction battery.

The car might be trying to be too intelligent, though, and not even trying to charge the battery because it knows the battery is dead.

I never mentioned the traction battery being connected to the same circuit as the HV batt

My colleague connection is unavailable until next week. I will follow up and post.

BTW: the traction battery can be treated just the same any other car battery, charged, jumped etc.

    Knowledgeable people concur with me.

Two batteries (Hi or Low voltage) can be connected in parallel without danger.
I also do not believe the problem is the HV battery state of charge

The latest on my C debacle: After taking the car to the dealer and being told the hybrid battery needed charging $ 60.00 they ordered in the charger from the regional rep about one and a half weeks went by received a call that the charger was in,took the car back in to the dealership received a call that the battery could'nt be charged as I needed a new SDM control module, left car there and ordered the module that I provided to dealership. Received call that battery was charging thru the night and would be ready in the morning.Next morning received call from dealership that battery charged fine but that I'd still have to trailer the car as it still won't run. Told that I'll have to replace deployed wheel and knee bag and seat belt and front crash sensor then it will run !!! After $ Approx 515.00 not counting the SDM module I provided my original question was answers ? Will the car run with a deployed air bag as of now the vehicle still says hynid failure and will not run !!!! If any one has any words of wisdom other than stay away from the dealer I would be most grateful . D.L.C.

    Ok,

To have a chance of returning this car to service, you are going to need:
    1. Prius-aware scanner - the 'Prius c' is so new that you may have no alternative to TechStream Lite. You can try the Chinese hacks from XHorse but there is no guarantee. The oldest North American Prius has seven control computers of which three are dedicated to the engine, transmission/hybrid vehicle, and battery. The others include the air-bag computer which if it finds they have been deployed will inhibit anything else from running.
    2. Maintenance manuals or TIS service - with the Prius-aware scanner, you can get the codes from the control computers that will tell you what is broken. Use these codes with the diagnostic manual to fault-isolate what remains broken.
This is a completely, computer operated car and if you don't 'talk to the computers,' nothing else will ever make sense.

You need to attach a scanner and read the codes. The Prius has multiple computers and the error codes are the ONLY way to understand what is wrong.

So if it has no codes, it can't be fixed ????
