Let clarify it with the following pics:

    1. JT Torres kit shows bottom, Metra Kit shows top, visually seems that JT Torres are wider than Metra:

    2. Placing JT Torres on top of Metra you will see the wide diferrence between both.

You see that when JT Torres inside opening edge finish, the Metra one are still visible on the bottom.

    3. Separate a little bit still looks like the photo above:

    Conclusion:
    • JT Torres kit - TOYOTA OEM RADIOS (Highlander, Corolla, Scion, Rav4), plus with a inserts came with the kit you can use it for AFTERMARKET RADIOS too.
    • Metra and Scosche kit - AFTERMARKET RADIOS ONLY (Pioneeer, JVC, Kenwood, Sony, etc.), no TOYOTA OEM RADIOS.

    I hope this clarify anything.

    So here's what I did:

I used the harness listed here:
    AutoHarnessHouse

That harness allows me to connect a +12V backup camera to the 16-pin connection on the head unit. This uses a relay and leeches +12V from the radio harness.

Also, the E-brake wire is grounded(it's telling the head unit that the brake is always engaged). This allows you to watch movies etc. even if your car does not have the wire that normally feeds the 16-pin connector on other models.

You can splice the reverse trigger into the backup lights.

I suppose we probably also have the wire in the kick panel like the Scion FRS(the picture is about half way down the page...I just searched for "reverse"):
Scion FR-S (Ultramarine) upgraded with Illusion Audio and Mosconi parts - Scion FR-S Forum | Subaru BRZ Forum | Toyota 86 GT 86 Forum | AS1 Forum - FT86CLUB

    I haven't confirmed this.

Is this radio worth it? Is the sound improved that much at all?

Yeah, I just ordered Highlander radio. Now I need a face-plate. Please , post a link to JT Torres or Metra or ,.. .

I was actually considering Scion Pioneer radios which are widely available on Ebay for about the same price as corrolla/Hl unit.
But only reason for me go with Pioneer was to have AppRadio , which requires extra cables ( Pioneer Hdmi to lightning?) for Iphone 6 connection.
It is more convenient for me to have google maps nav app running on my IPhone with voice streaming over Bluetooth, then plug
my iphone to the car cable every time.

So, once again, any link to where I can buy a face-plate for Highlander radio will be much appreciated.

Hey guys, I just installed the 2013 highlander radio and everything works perfect! But I was wondering how I would update entunes or connect it to my phone to update entunes? Also how would I access the apps? The headunit is a non-navigation everything works fine.
Except that I don't have any access to the apps.

Dangit, I was hoping the only reason it doesn't have apps is that it requires the phone connect with entune activated..
