I know car seats have been discussed before, but its a rather specific situation.

Does anyone have any experience with two rear-facing (one convertible, one carrier-type?) car seats in a Prius C?

If so which seats and how well did they fit?
Did you have them next to each other and install one with the seat belt, or on both sides and using Latch?

Any chance of occasionally fitting a (relatively thin) adult in the back as well, if the seats are side by side?

I'm sure this can be done with a larger car, but I would rather spend a couple hundred more on the right car seats than spend thousands more on a larger car.

I have a rear facing Chicco keyfit 30 car seat (detachable base model) It's the run of the mill version that everyone gets. I have it in place using the seatbelt behind the passenger side. This setup gives the front passenger about 3-4" of legroom to the dash. My 5'1" wife barely has enough leg room to sit there.

I also have a Eddie Bauer forward facing convertible seat behind the drivers side. I'm 5'11 and i have enough room to sit comfortably enough, but if I had a rear facing behind the driver's side it would not work out. Between these two baby seats there is literally 6 in. of space in the middle. No human being would be able to squeeze in there.

I haven't sat in a C but I can say for the lift back we occasionally carry an adult in the back with 2 child seats. We tried carrying the adult in the middle but there is not enough shoulder room to lean back comfortably. We place the rear facing carrier next to the regular forward facing child seat. This allows the adult in the back to lean back and have easy access to the door. My wife is 5'6" and always prefer to sit with the kids when we have a 5th passenger. We went on an 8 hour trip this way to San Diego.

I've see on the web slimmer rear facing seats that fit even better for the smaller C. Unless the adult you intend on carrying in the back is large, I think you'll do just fine.

Well the second car seat should arrive next week.
The future occupant of that car seat isn't expected for a few months, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm still optimistic that we can spend more a car seat and fit everyone for an occasional trip, rather than buying a new car...
