... 1 of the muffler mechanics claimed to have '30 yrs experience' .. he may havev been right with the speed that this thing was done and they may have just been so used to MIg welding pipe because its fast and they get things done .. they have a 5 star rating on google/yelp .. another shop would do it for $250 but they wanted couple hours .. another shop would have done it 180 but they needed to leave the car and 'they would get to it that day' ...

car is 16 yrs old .. has been on the road 14/15 of those years .. so imagine some soot buildup with 165k (and probably 150k of motor running ) through the pipes .... with new cats ,, i think it breathes a little easier .. i'm not sure the car would pick up much power with a straight pipe ... miller atkinson is not performance to begin with so it may actually hurt perf.. and prob. would hurt mpg .... a certain amount of backpressure is needed .. prob. why the end pipe goes down to a smaller diameter ...

from what i understand. . there is a high concentration in them .. however. in large vehicles like trucks there is even more quantity ... ---
would think a truck is easier to get under as it is already up and not requiring lifting .. some story of a truck having their cat robbed as it sat on roadside for assistance is out there ...

Time to rig up the electric fence under the car. Maybe running off the HV battery? Haha.

Did you get a jolt? Oh sorry, why were you under my car?

Yeah, and you can also explain to the cops why your neighbor's kid is being rushed to the hospital 'because he got electrocuted trying to retrieve his ball that rolled under your car... Or how about explaining to your other neighbor why their cat died underneath you car?

    Be not afraid.
Both in Canada and here in the US, fence chargers (solar, battery, etc....) do not kill, otherwise their manufacturers would be changing ownership every other year after going into receivership from slip and fall lawyers constantly suing them.

HOWEVER (comma!!!) in some dictatorial third world governments where laws are intended to "protect the innocent:", there "might be" laws governing their use, often as not because the people writing the laws do not know that electric fences are designed SPECIFICALLY and CAREFULLY to be non-lethal to humans, pets, wild animals.....

    ....yes, even cats.

    FORTUNATELY...there are other methods....

Because you're in Canada you'll have an easier time buying a cheap $120 aftermarket Cat. Seems a company in Ontario is the primary supplier for all the cheap cats being sold on Ebay right now.

Also, I'm about ready to try an O2 sensor that only costs $16 brand new on ebay. I suspect it might not work so well, but if it does it'll save people lots of money. Will report back once I know more.

Unfortunately the California CARB virus threatens to spread to Virginia.

It is part of one of the bills promoting EVs that was in the last legislative session. I have not checked to see whether it passed both Democrat controlled houses. People can always check at lis.virginia.gov.

What does promoting EVs have to do with catalytic converters and California's costly OEM replacement requirement?

    Fact Check: Mixed. Mostly false.

There are several (meaning: more than one, maaaaayybe as many as 13!) CARB states in the US right now.
Other than the Kalifornia (Калифорния) there is only one other that that I know about where normally functioning humans might replace a stolen Prius cat with another Prius cat, and that's New York.....and EVEN THOSE GUYS have a non-OEM alternative that's approved, and I'm just guessing here, but even in NY, most of the 62 counties aren't going to subject your car to a very careful search to ensure that your cat is "CARB" compliant as long as it passes smog...ah....presumming that they actually DO the test instead of taking $20 NOT to.... ;)

I lived in VA for a year and a half, and the last time I pounded tent stakes as a squid was in VA, and unlike most states they DON'T PLAY with vehicle inspections!!
However (comma!) as long as your vehicle passes their Vehicle Emission Standards and your CEL is not illuminated, they don't give a rats what kind of cat you have....and most Priuses would probably pass without a catalytic converter. ;)

If the state (commonwealth) of VA goes CARB, I'm guessing that you really will not notice, excepting that you might get additional warranty coverage on certain emissions components that will not be applicable to most of the Priuses whose cats are being ripped presently.
