More to the point, California has a credit program requiring a certain percentage of Toyota's sales in California to be compensated for with ZEV credits, and there's two ways to get those - sell cars that earn ZEV credits, or buy ZEV credits from somewhere else. And, it's cheaper to sell those cars at a loss than to buy those credits, so Toyota sold PiPs at a loss into California.

 

But wait, Toyota presently has a surplus of Zev/pvev credits. So I'm still going for their logic as being 'another' rational - but i'm holding my tongue as to what that might be - for now.

Just got an email yesterday that they are still in the finalization process (which will not complete until Feb 9th), but opened the orientation session up to those that applied.

I'll be at the 7:30-8:30 session.

Don't really understand why we have to go to an orientation meeting when we haven't been selected yet. I also chose the 7:30 session so I'll be seeing you there Ray.

 

I said the same thing to my wife last night. Seems a little backwards or presumptive. I know there is nothing I would rather do then fight traffic to Palo Alto on a work night only to potentially be told the following week that my services were not chosen.

But I'll be there with bells on!!

I guess orientation sounds better than "interview for the job." Still, I had a lot of fun driving in a circle for the longest hybrid parade last year. It was nice just meeting so many like minded fans of the Prius.

 

I guess that will be the saving grace if not chosen or I do poorly on "the orientation".

Traffic shouldn't be a problem...car pool lane.
I just drove that way on Friday and the car pool lane gets you most of the way there (from my location)

I'll be driving in after work from Pittsburg. No PIP so it will be awhile.

 

DW has the PiP so I'll be lumbering in on an SUV from Richmond.

 

That's gonna be rough.

Which lesser of 2 evils is better:

880 through Oakland or stay on 80 and go on the Bay Bridge through SF?

I should be ok until I get to 580, then the fun begins.

 

When you said Pittsburg, I was like we should carpool. I'm in Martinez. Then I realized work is in Richmond. Going towards Pittsburg on 4 is definitely not desireable.

Anyway, I think 92 is our best bet to Palo Alto. I'll be in a white Mitsubishi Outlander see you on the bridge.

 

Unless you want to meet up somewhere before the San Mateo bridge (split the bridge toll and save you a little gas in the process ).

The company I work for has a facility off of clawiter (its the last exit prior to the bridge).

But it appears you are in Milipitas based on your avatar, so probably not interested in extending your evening to car pool.

 

On second thought if you are in Martinez, I have to commute back to Fairfield after "the orientation", so if you wanted to meet up somewhere, it would work for me. Going toward Martinez or Richmond is better than coming towards Pittsburg.

I have to come back through the East Bay somehow.
