Yeah. I'd never seen the under-the-cars perspective before.

Looks like the impact was less than a foot from the passenger dash board but not as close on the other car. I can bet the prius passenger was hurt.

The engineering involved in distributing the crash forces and preserving the integrity of the passenger cage is impressive - especially in an offset crash which concentrates the crash forces on the driver's side. This is why I just shake my head with folks say they long for the big old "safe" cars of the past.

During the 80s & early 90s I worked on a number of crash test related IT projects for the Detroit 3. Disaster is when they crash a hand-built prototype of an upcoming model and some glitch prevents the collection of any impact data from the dummies.

Advanced computer simulation has reduced the number of physical crash tests automakers need to perform these days.

You mean driver? The impact was on the driver side. Remember they are backwards there.

You want to see a close impact? My buddy was arguring how much safer his 2002 F150 was compared to my 2002 Camry, until I showed him this.

I'm sure technology has progressed in Auto Safety. However a week does not go by that I do not read about some fatal accident for example poor Dr. Livingston who died in a head on crash involving a Camry and Rav 4.
Doctor who died after crash identified : Encinitas

There's a video where the IIHS crashed a 1959 Bel Air and a 2009 Malibu. Guess which one fared better...

Yeah--you can really see how the crumple zones work from that perspective.

There wouldn't even be a scratch on the Prius if they'd kept the underbody panels on. :ROFLMAO:

Makes you wonder how unsafe those vintage car colllectors (Jay Leno) are.
