But the touring packages has Softex and 17" wheels, neither of which I want.

These may be Japanese trim levels. U.S. levels could vary somewhat from the Japanese ones. I'm guessing that the U.S. levels will released around the time of the L.A. Auto Show in November.

Hmm, but the black car in Las Vegas had 15" alloys and SofTex. The only one with fabric was the silver car.

Isn't there also suppose to be the Battery Option? Either NiMH or Lithium Ion?

Could get pretty complicated trying to explain what Prius you are driving or trying to explain to someone what Prius they are buying.
6 different trim levels, with 2 different battery options?

I can't wait until the start hitting the used car market, nobody is going to know what they are buying.

I bet an average buyer does not know or couldn't care less whether his car has Nimh vs Li-ion, or front wheel vs rear wheel drive.

I'm NOT taking that bet. A vehicle is typically the second largest purchase a person makes, couple that with the number of "What Prius am I buying? What Trim Level Do I Own? " posts that show up here, and my opinion is buyers do indeed care what they own.

And my personal experience is that I would care care about things as basic as front wheel drive/rear wheel drive, and certainly if I'm buying a hybrid vehicle, that's difference in performance in primarily controlled by usage and interaction with the HV battery, then what battery I actually have IS going to be something I want to know.

People are going to care. Even if they discover there is a difference...after they purchase.

Just hazarding a guess: battery choice and 4WD (if it happens) will be built-in to certain trim levels.

I hope that is the case. Although even if so? I still think it will lead to a lot of secondary market questioning. Mostly because it seems a lot of used car dealers and salesmen have very limited knowledge of the vehicle they are actually selling.

That and if you take the entire Prius Family as a whole, including trim levels, Toyota now offers upwards of 15+ "different" vehicles all called "Prius".

Just sayin' anyone stating "I just bought a Prius." Now has to continue to illuminate and be pretty specific. That sentence can mean a whole lot of different things now.

From posts about the Japanese models, it appears battery type may be linked to whether it has AWD.
