    Hey Folks,
My 2005 Prius appears to be done. Has 205k miles, had main hybrid battery replaced at 120k (w help from this board!). Now has electrical issue and will likely cost significant amount to repair (plus 2nd hybrid battery probably nearing end of its life)

QUESTION: has anyone sold a non operating Prius? Did you sell it for parts? What are the options here?

    Appreciate your suggestions in advance!

Lol my little half Chihuahua half jack sits just like yours. Looks like his brother lol. I'll post a pic later.
He sleeps under the covers with you doesn't he lol.

Anyway love the doggie. Put it on Craigs list there's always somebody looking for a steal. If its a paper weight $1500 to $2000 I do know the cat converter alone is worth alot of money not sure how much but alot there being stolen left and right in Cali. Epidemic.

I would remove the cat and sell just the cat for $800. That's cheap you can only run the oem cat in CA to pass smog.the oem cat new is $2400..

Someone can chime in I may be low on the $800.

    Good luck!

Hi Rph74, I put the kaibosh on further diagnostic from Toyota after 1 hour, they said they need 3 more hours, which seems concerning. My mechanic friend says could possibly be whatever electrical system charges the main battery. It’s about time for a new car any way, but I’ve loved my Prius!

Good move it’s probably the hybrid battery again there dropping like flys these days since nobody is driving much anymore.
That will kill and old G2.

smart moving along so many people on this site wont let it go let it and throw a lot of money at a high mileage money pit with poor return.

Put that cat on ebay see what it will get. Start at $600 lots of desperate people in Ca.
Then lay-off the car for $1500 on Craig’s list.

Faulty Priuses sell very cheap; I was shocked to find out that Gen 2 are being crushed due to this. Selling the catalytic converter separately sounds good! If you can, removing and reconditioning the battery yourself could keep your car on the road; in the peri-covid era, reliable cars will become more valuable, and the Gen2 will become more valuable as they are built like tanks. It might be you can fix your car for free or for cheap!

Good luck. When you go in the junk yards around the Tampa area the Prius's are picked clean. Very popular car.

But the gold may be in the cat literaly. I would be interested to know what that cat sells for on ebay. In CA they actually inspect the cat to make sure its an OEM cat.

Hi Edthefox5, I'm in Texas now, do you think Prius catalytic converters have the same value in Texas? Actually, I guess it doesn't matter if I sell it on eBay because it can presumably go to any U.S. state?

No there very dear in carb states only because you must use an original factory cat anything else it will fail smog test. They look at the cat to make sure its factory. New cat is $2400. Cat theft becoming epidemic in CA. Not sure if its because people actually need a new cat or the organized crime connection is in CA. High theft in London too.

I dont know how to lay it off for the metals but in CA it will sell for $800 I bet. When they steal it they chop off the o2 sensor too so alot of damage to the car. Include that sensor.

Please see the link to the story. Palladium which is $2000 an ounce. There's some youtubes about it too.
