I installed a towing hitch but the clearance is a bit low. Do other owners use suspension lifting kits for towing? Lastly I am not towing much weight. The trailer that I intend to get will be 200 to 300 lbs and the cargo will be 500-600 lbs. I've read that a prius will handle up to 900 lbs at low speed (60mph on the freeway).

In the US, Toyota rates the Prius at 0 lbs. You are on your own.

I use this Curt-Manufacturing-CURT-45014-Class-II-1-1-4-Ball-Mount. It has a 5 inch rise that brings the trailer almost level. I keep the tongue weight about 100 -120 lbs with no suspension mods. Trailer is 4x8 2ft high. No problems with handling. 42mpg at 65mph
