Seeing a Prius get destroyed like that didn't bother me nearly as much as the time Monster Garage destroyed that cherry Ford Anglia.

Well shoot, my G35 and my wife's Sequoia both got mileage that was significantly worse than the EPA estimates too. Why is it that while virtually every car on the road (with a couple rare exceptions) routinely does considerably worse than EPA estimates, and only with the Prius does anyone cry foul. Our Sequoia had almost flawless build quality, the best I've ever seen, but my G35 rattled with the best of them, and the driver's seat was incurably loose in its tracks. So, why isn't Art Spinelli hammering on the G35 for its little deviations from perfection???

That was kinda funny, but I kept waiting for it to explode or do something dramatic...and the best he could do was a little smoke and flames coming from under the bonnet? (how's that for English-speak?)

Bah. Is this guy a friend of that TV bounty-hunter guy or something?

Reminds me of this news story I saw on TV long ago (late 70's), where these UAW workers were all upset about import cars flooding the U.S. market...

So they got a Toyota Corolla (I think it was, or a Corona or something, I can't remember) and, while it was sitting idling in a parking lot, two or three big guys opened the hood and started smashing the engine with sledgehammers.

It was kind of like the Prius...they kept hitting it and hitting it and I kept expecting it to disintegrate at any moment...but it kept running and running...

The story ended with these guys continuing to beat on the engine as it defended itself by spewing hot liquids back at them (first the coolant, then someone must have sheared a power steering hose)...but it never did quit running...

Now I wont feel quite as bad taking a dead prius gen1 and turning it into a ultra quiet/clean generator/backup power system sometime in the future instead of having it fixed.

Because Prius owners seem to think their cars are god's gift to the environment. If there wasn't such an enormous concentration of douchebaggery within the Prius owner population it wouldn't get half as much s**t.

Gee, and I thought quiche-eating, pantywaist metrosexuals who drive BMWs had a corner on the douchbaggery market. . . OK, some Prius owners like the enviro-symbolism they perceive the car produces. Is that more offensive than legions of men who buy Chevy pickups that are "like a rock" (because, I suspect, their personal parts aren't...)??? Again, a double standard. Prius onwers are reviled for the symbolism into which they buy, while no one says much about the legions of desperately insecure types that are slopping at the "built Ford tough" trough -- or dare I say it -- those who must have the "ultimate driving machine. . ." Note he's using UK mpg - when he says "45mpg(UK) tops", that translates to "37.5mpg(US) tops".

I have yet to see a thread on a BMW forum titled "Is smugness really that bad?"

Well, with the understanding that your mere presence here indicates that there's hope for you yet, I've gotta say that I don't spend much time on the BMW boards. Severely overpopulated by crowds of: [IMG] [IMG].

Actually most BMW enthusiasts are really nice guys, it's the ones who just buy the car as a commuter that tend to be assholes. Cute gif...

A lot of it has to do with the overall tone of the specific forum too. Once the jerks get a foothold in a forum, its hard to get them out.

He is not an idiot. He is just not open minded enough to understand the Prius. I get 55 MPG now with my wife and I in the car. He just won’t take the time to try to learn to drive it. The 04-07 has a lot more pep and that does not mater to me as I drive for economy. Always as the speed limit but never over. He never talks about the nav system, just as well since it is in a Prius he would not like that either. I figure he can just have his muscle cars and that is fine by me. I'll keep driving the coolest car with an ICE on the road today!

No, he just doesn't care for it. As he said there are diesels in england that get better mileage, even better than 55MPG, and from where he's coming from the Prius doesn't make any sense.

Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they're wrong.
