The good news is that I'm near the top of the bracket I'm in. The bad news is that I'm not in the next-higher bracket.

I will too. We're doing our taxes first thing in the am tomorrow, so I've got both of our W-2's sitting in front of me right now. Wow, I had to calculate it several times because I was sure I did it wrong the first 3 times, but we somehow managed to gross $142,870 last year. And so much of that goes to taxes too (Fed/State)...roughly $35K of that. Booo!

    LOL! I'll play...

    -MY car :) All mine...
    -I will drive it
    -I gave myself the idea
-He agreed with me (especially after he took HIS turn test-driving :p )
-I applied for the loan, alone
    -I'll make the monthly payments
-Registration/title will be in my name only
-Toyota will have to repair it for me but I'll pay them for it
-I might allow him to drive it on occasion; however, if it were to become a regularly occuring thing, I shall inform him that he has a perfectly usable car of his own to drive and if he likes mine so much he should get one for himself, LOL!
-He did hook me up with a client of his who works for Longo Toyota, so he gets credit for that, especially considering that the guy is a total non-sleazebag salesjerk and I'm completely comfortable dealing with him, which is a huge deal to me

Actually, it might be a leeeetle bit more than that because we bought our condo last January and after 12 months of payments we can deduct a good portion of the interest from the mortgage and the property taxes (ah, so that's where the rest of our income went). It'd actually be nice if we got ANY refund, because last year I OWED ~$4000, which sucked. Bleh! Ah, we'll know by about 9:30am tomorrow I guess. Fingers crossed...

I would like to see a poll correlating Prius ownership with IQ (Intelligent Quotient) levels! I would expect a very high correlation....but what do you think?

Which begs the question - which car out there has the owners with the lowest IQ? Anybody care to speculate?

My income is less than $30,000; yet I could afford to pay cash for my 06 Prius. Some of rules are: if it cost less than $20 pay cash. Save money and think ahead. Never, Never go in dept for a car or vacation and never borrow from tomorrow.
I learned these rules the hard way.

My wife and I both are graduate students. Both of us had cars before our marriage a year back, and then my wife's '92 Toyota camry died. My '95 Honda Accord is running fine for now, but then my wife and I decided that it was worth sending some money on a new car, rather than keep on dumping money into maintaining an old car. And when it came to buying a new car, it made more sense for us to get a hybrid like the Prius. So although we just make it to the bracket in which i voted, i guess we are still confident of having made the right choice.

Kathleen, I'd love to know your secret. My wife & I traded in a 2002 Hyundai- we got $8400. The balance was $15,000. The dealer offered 7% interest. The lowest payment we could get into would have been $310/m0. for 60 months. That was too much. I didn't want anyone to have my title. So, I wrote a home equity line ck. I don't like owing money, but we don't make that much. At 7.25% this month and 7.50% after next month I'm looking for another way to pay less interest.

Unfortunately, paying cash was not possible. But, the time was right to buy the Prius and dump the 6 cyl. Hyundai. The tax credit was a big thing also.
So, what is your secret? Any other thoughts?
