Hello, a quick update on the situation.
I managed to drive a PiP in EV mode successfully (also got lost, managed to use the satnav, several reverses etc :)) . Finally I found a good salesman (I think he may have been the son of the owner). They offered me a good price for a 1 yo PiP with 2k miles on it while giving me a good valuation for my 10 yo car (left hand drive!). I'll pick it up in 2 days!

Thanks a lot for your help guys, has been extremely useful!

    (P. S. I'm halfway through the manuals :-P)

Just remember, when first driving it, to tuck your left leg under the seat and keep your left hand on the steering wheel... Took me a few days stop going for the clutch and gearstick as I slowed down. Six months on, I really must go and try driving my wife's car before I completely forget how to change gear.

EDIT: sorry, just took in your comment about your old car being wrong-hand drive;) . If that was a manual you are just going to be completely confused for a few days...

Easy mistake...so easy to flop a sale...which is the goal for a salesmen... o_O

Actually I find it easier! I had the chance to drive a RHD van a while ago and yes, I grated gears a few times. Having the gears mirrored and having to operate with the opposite hand make things complicate.
On the other hand (pun intended) switching from a LHD car to a gearless car you "only" have to worry about the different seating positions and the different point of view. And it definitely helps on overtakes instead of relying on my (licenseless) partner to tell me when it's a good time to overtake :p
