Dianne didn't come close to some of the quotes I have been getting and definitely not the Costco quote I got. I will give you that she was very nice and informative (very responsive thru email) and maybe the transaction would have been smooth. I wouldn't know cause she would not move on her price of just $400 off MSRP. At the end of our conversation she pretty much said "if you don't like it..." but in a polite way.
I was just disappointed with her hard stance.

I asked my dealer, but I think he is too busy servicing his customers. :( :( :(

Ah, I see, it's a Carson Toyota discount, and not applicable to other dealers

Guys, I am not posting pricing because I don't want to, actually.
I have dealerships surrounding me charging as much as $5,000 over MSRP and a lot at $2,000-3,000 over MSRP and plenty who are adding extras at their lot and charging a fortune for the extras (I have heard of one store offering tinted windows at $1995 - OMG - and leather at $2995... ) which is a way to just add the extra markup IN something w/o calling it a market adjustment. I am no stranger to added markups. We have done them on Prius Plug Ins before. And, still do that on all TRD Pro vehicles.
I have no idea what the market on this model will bear as time passes.
As a region, our next allocation has only 240 total Prime on it. Out of 75+ dealerships, that's what gets divvied up on the early December boats TO EVERYONE till the next allocation in December.
    Read: NOT ENOUGH CARS!!!
I am trying to stay at MSRP or close to it to avoid added markups as demand surges.
There's barely 3% markup between the car's invoice and the retail MSRP. That's the biggest reason folks are adding markups. Demand vs. supply.
    Just some facts.

Invoice is only ~$600 less than MSRP? I find that hard to believe.

Dianne Whitmire mentioned a 3% margin. That is pretty slim.

Any idea when the allocations will increase? I am in Phoenix and want to trade up from my 2013 to a Prime, but they don't seem to be available here. One dealership had one but it sold. If anybody in Phoenix has any experience to share I would love to hear it.

I'm not in a huge hurry, just trying to plan.

I think they are a victim of the low gas prices. Other manufacturers will have the same problems. The average American consumer is almost always less likely to pursue alternative fuel vehicles when gassing their conventional vehicles doesn't hurt.

Got a call back from a dealership that was into charging 5k+ market price last week... they caved and claimed the market has changed. Needless to say... I gave him a good laugh

"They'll be eating their shorts by next summer."

    :ROFLMAO:  (y)

I'm curious, why is everyone is such a HUGE hurry to buy??? You are like kids in a candy store! Wait a few months, allow the inventories to build up, prices will come down a bit. Why all the anxiety... It's just a car. :D By next summer, Dianne might be desperate and will be knocking 4K off the price. There's NO way I would pay MSRP for that car.

(I already got 3 recalls on my 2016 Prius! Two just arrived in the mail yesterday. I've only owned the car for 8 months...This sucks! Wait and see if the Prime has any bugs before you run out and buy. I'm ready to trade mine for a Honda Civic.)

Dianne is facing HIGH demand in CA due to HOV access. Her price seems pretty decent compared to PiP in 2012. You can ask Bisco about CA PiP prices in early 2012. Many a CA PiP buyer went to MD for their 2012 PiPs, where we had much lower prices. You cannot do that yet as CA has the Primes, I assume. Where we saw the low prices in 2012 was Sept-Dec after the ~March release date

I wouldn't say the reason for the demand is the HOV access... CA does not have a limit on these stickers now so there is no rush to buy. The reason for the demand the is same reason for the PiP in reverse. Everyone nationwide who was waiting for the car, is going to CA to buy creating a salesman's dream of false demand. That is why no dealer is out of stock and many dealers have caved after just a week.

I'll say it once and say it again. 373,000 Tesla Model 3 pre-orders...... impossible to sell this Prime over retail.

Tell the salesmen to lay off the crack pipe.
