Are we sure that is a Takata issue?
I have a master thread (below) on that and Consumer Reports updates the info in the link.
I do not see Prius on there ... I see 2015-2016 4-Runner with 2018 fix date.

There have been Prius airbag issues, but not due to Takata issue to date.
Issue with Takata is ammonium nitrate propellant, whereas ammonium nitrate is too moisture sensitive unless they put a moisture drying agent in there. Although the Takata airbags probs date back to 2008, only a year or so ago did they finally conclude root cause was ammonium nitrate itself...

See my recall, above. "Improperly welded, and or misassembled." So now we have a new twist. Sloppy assembly. Several articles I have read, stated that Takata is the only supplier of airbags for all the millions of vehicles affected. Seems to be pretty common knowledge.

My recall says the airbag can accidentally deploy itself while the vehicle has been parked and unoccupied for a period of time. The inside of my car has reached temperatures of 105° or more, while parked in the summer. The Airbag hasn't gone off yet. I wonder what causes it… Heat? Humidity? Cold?

I don't think so...Prius til now has not had the Takatas.
All of the older Takata are pretty much ammonium nitrate and all must be replaced.
but to date we have not had any Prii recalled for Takata per se

I don't know Tracy, we may never know the whole truthful story. I read another article that said people were becoming inpatient, and going to their dealers and requesting the airbags be disconnected. They were so fearful of injury.

My sincere apologies, and I better sign off from this thread. We were supposed to be talking about the new Prime plug-in Prius. Which by the way, I think is very nice looking car. Can I buy a Prius Prime without the plug-in option?

LOL! Not only will it growl, but probably burn from those jalapeños! :ROFLMAO: I'm not sure if that's chicken or fish on that burger.

One more post. This may help answer the Takata question.

Toyota Moror Corp., recalling about 12 million vehicles worldwide to replace Takata Corp. airbags, said it may tap three additional suppliers to boost supply of the components.

Toyota may buy replacement airbag inflators from three Takata rivals

    ***USE THE**

They stick together. The article said they don't want to destroy Takata. They will continue to buy from them.
I think it's fair to assume, since Takata is the worldwide supplier, that all Toyota models including the Prius have Takata. (If we can find an honest Toyota parts man, I'm sure he could tell us.)

    ***MULTI-QUOTE***

One article I posted said Toyota is recalling 23 million vehicles. I don't think they would select a different company's airbag just for the Prius.

    I need some Jim Beam:ROFLMAO:

    ***FUNCTION!!!***

This isn't the big Takata recall. That involves propellant(explosive) operated airbags. Time, heat, and humidity cause the chemical to degrade and become unstable, which can lead to it going off randomly with the airbag completely deployed. Replacing the old airbags with new ones using the same propellant was deemed acceptable as a stop gap until a real fix was available.

Good to know a dealerships outside of CA are starting to get the Prime. Now they just need to start penetrating further inland, like, say, Ohio. ;)
