Thanks! I didn't know, until now, that the Prime was listed at Costco. It wasn't not a week ago. I wonder if that will actually save any money now with the tight supply.

i say it because they have to work through their dealerships. you can't buy one directly like tesla. if toyota isn't educating their dealers? strike one.

A lot of dealers (here), I think, are in this "We'll get around to it eventually" mode - in training their sales staff on any new or upcoming cars. Now that those cars are actually on the streets, there is little to no excuse. That roadblock in knowledge will only turn away prospective buyers calling on those dealerships.

Talked to three more dealers in Ca. this afternoon. Waiting to hear back about their near future deliveries. Somewhat hopeful.

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to talk with Elgin. I'm probably not going to have any better chances with Libertyville but might as well try. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Hi Tony,

Regarding Elgin: When I checked out the GenIV early this year, they were most interested in what I thought of the levels of that model and what advanced info I might have on the Prime. They prodded me for the info I knew because they had nothing at all on it at the time - um, sorta like even now, unfortunately. This was just following the official reveal. Even though they knew I wasn't going to buy a GenIV, the Sales Manager nevertheless led me on a lengthy behind the scenes tour of their new facilities. I feel they could very well come around with stocking the Primes the more people ask about the car. I encourage you to also prod them about it. Can't hurt to get them to realize it will be in their best interest.

Elmhurst: I purchased my 2010 at Elmhurst. I believe that was their first real sale of the Gen3 in May 2009. Their service department is incredible. Service on my car there has been either nearly free or ridiculously low-priced. Rear backup beeping situation? "Oh, we can fix that for you! Anything else you want to change while we're at it?" Free. No questions. They really go that extra mile. They've had the same service manager for the 8 years I've been a customer and it is due to him that everybody is so nice in that department. New car sales is very much a crap shoot, however. Most of the sales people seem to know nothing about what they're selling, no matter what model it is - pretty unfortunate, but as car sales go, not too uncommon. If I can ever score a Prime there, it would still be my first choice of dealerships despite the roulette and agony of getting through the sales process without needing a bottle of scotch immediately afterwards. It is their service dept. that would keep me there. I'm having my side curtain airbag recall service tomorrow and in my 3 hr. wait I'm sure talk of the Prime will come up.

Libertyville: Never been up there, but of the Chi. area Toyota dealerships, I have always heard from friends that these three are among the very best.
