Hey guys, I just purchased two Prius Prime Premium and joined the army here yesterday.

I noticed a hissing sound when the car goes forward, especially when it goes fast. I am just wondering if this is normal?

I hear it from the back of the car, and I hear it when it passes by me. At the dealer, one of the cars has a comparatively louder hissing sound, so I just picked another one instead. Still this really gets me. The sales try to sell me a story that when the car switch from electricity to gas, it will start making hissing sound, which I am not buying it.

Should the new Prius Prime makes any hissing noise? And for electric cars does it start making hissing sounds after how many of uses?

Since this is my first time buying any electric or hybrid car, I am seeking help here to make sure that I did not purchase any car with defects. Thank you in advance.

Not really fast. could be 15 mph, then I can hear this hissing from the back of the car. If I chase the car from the back, I could hear it, or you could hear it when it passes by you.

Basically, if the car is stopped right beside you, then somebody hit the pedal and move the car forward, you should be able to hear in my case.

To make it clear. I am not in the car. Somebody else drives the car. I hear it from outside of the car.

that's what it is for, so pedestrians will hear electric cars coming, not for the passengers.

not surprising that sales creeps are unaware.

the sound level is programmable. if you heard it from the back, it was probably on high.

I'm pretty sure I heard a Prius c making that sound today. They commenced in 2012, guess that was the year the noise maker started as well?

Oh, so it could be disabled. Great. It was such an annoying sound I first heard it. I guess I will ask them to disabled it when I pick up my car.

Well, unless for blind people, a little hissing sound will not prevent crazy pedestrians to get hits.

The initial theory was to help blind people or clueless texting pedestrians. Results in other countries do not support this theory but the US is requiring it anyway.
