Thing to keep in mind is the tax rebate that you get for trading it in. Lowers your tax burden..

    Nice!

I got my CA CVRP check a few weeks ago. My address had changed and I called them about it. They said the check was already printed, but later they said that they changed my address. They did a good job.

I had DMV change my address, and then got a replacement registration card with my new address, which I used to apply for the SCE rebate. I expect a similar timeframe or perhaps longer this time according to their website.

I'm not sure if there there is a tax advantage in NY, but you may want to calculate the tax on the price carvana is offering you, then subtract from the quote amount.

I'd then use this number as a minimum to get on trade in at a dealer, that way you'll avoid paying tax on 20K+.

I'd only go with carvana if the dealer's trade in number is considerably lower that the minimum you established.

Feel free to reach out if you have additional questions.

Per Carvana, there is no tax. Whatever the offer that is the one you will get.

Def sounds like a better deal then! Go over on leasehackr, theres several reviews of people who sold to Carvana so it seems pretty legit.

In my experience, i've always been able to get the dealer to come up on their price when I am sitting there in person!

In your case i'd want the dealer to be near 22300 to make up the tax difference!

What I mean is that when you buy a new car you have to pay full tax. Here's an example:

20K car at 7% tax =1400 - If you have a trade in, woth 18K, then you will only pay tax on the remaining 2K. so 140

In this case. I may be OK with a dealer offering 17,500 instead of selling it for 18K, because the $500 difference is less than what I would pay in tax on a straight purchase!

    Make sense?

Just a reminder that some states don't have trade-in tax exemptions.

    From Cars.com:
There are, however, seven states that don’t offer a trade-in sales tax break: California, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Montana and Virginia. The District of Columbia doesn’t offer this benefit, either, so you’ll pay sales tax on the purchase price including trade-in.
