    Yeah, back in 2019 they did. But according to this article, they exited the new-vehicle retail business in 2021.
    https://www.motorbiscuit.com/carmax-will-no-longer-sell-new-vehicles-but-the-24-hour-test-drive-still-stands/

    The article actually mentions that In January (of 2021), CarMax sold Laurel Toyota in Maryland to Sheehy Auto Stores of Virginia.

    @Gokhan
    Here is one data point a sales price of a used Blue 21 PP Ltd with 25,500 miles on her sold in South Cal.

    Prius Prime 2021/ Blue
    -Msrp (this is sticker price) $33,998

    How many miles on yours? Good luck getting KBB suggested $36K for the trade-in.

    21,000 miles. Mine is in mint condition though. Almost no one can keep their car in the excellent condition as I can—most will show noticeable wear, such as on the seats, trim, and paint, after a year. I also broke in fully and never abused the EV battery. I still have the same battery capacity as the original.

    Meh, it really doesn't matter how good condition you keep your car as long as the car has no mechanical issues and is clean with no dents or scratches. No used car dealers will check for the traction battery capacity. Two of my PPs were sold without anyone actually looking at the car in person before handing me a check. Even when a professional appraiser looks at the car, the price is not so much based on the condition of the car. Case in point, my 2021 PP Ltd was traded in at KBB's excellent condition trade-in price at the time I purchased a new 22 Escape PHEV. But this was achieved after two weeks of haggling. The initial offer was $4K lower. Somehow in two weeks of negotiation, the value of my car increased by $4K. And I did not even wash my car when I dropped it off.

    I think it makes a difference if there are no swirl marks on the paint and no wear on the seats. Faux-leather seats will usually show wear within a year with most owners.

    We will see. If they don't give me a good deal, there won't be a deal, and I will wait until next year if not later to trade in, when the factory rebates and dealer discounts are back.

    I'm curious to see what happens. Right now it appears to me that Toyota is either trying to milk the "shortage" as much as possible, or their supply chain strategy is an unmitigated disaster of epic proportions. Other manufacturers are ramping up production and even having excess inventory while Toyota still can't even get cars on the lot at their dealerships. The dealers are still desperate for something, anything to sell. Every time I have my car serviced I get harassed about selling them my Prime. To be sure, their corporate profits are off the charts, but they're going to run out of people with the discretionary income to pay $45,000+ for a car or family minivan and then their whole world will come crashing down.

    The 2021 Sienna LE was selling for $34,000, and now you can't find a 2022-23 Sienna for under $44,000 around here. It will be interesting to see what unfolds.

    Yes, it's interesting how car companies keep repeating the mistakes of their former leaders. The Big 3 were overpriced and complacent in the 70s and that's how Toyota got big. Then Toyota got complacent in the 00s and along comes Kia/Hyundai. Now Kia/Hyundai are complacent and here comes BYD and other Chinese manufacturers. When you ignore the intro market you are creating your own long term downfall as your buyers get older and older and you fail to attract new buyers. I suspect there will be another major falling out of the big players. Once GM thought they were too big to fail, now they are a shadow of their former selves.

    Beginning January 1, 2023, if you buy a qualified used electric vehicle (EV) or fuel cell vehicle (FCV) from a licensed dealer for $25,000 or less, you may be eligible for a used clean vehicle tax credit (also referred to as a previously owned clean vehicle credit).Jan 17, 2023/ IRS website. This was just from a brief search I did last night.

    I have placed an order for the 2024 Prime at msrp with the deposit. My question is, will the dealer try to include me this $5K protection when I receive the car? Do they have right to do it when we have agreed on the msrp price? If they do, I am done with the Toyota's...
