    sorry, i responded to the wrong post. i disagree (with post #258) that americans will not want to carry an evse around in their cars. if americans ever get with the ev program.:cool:

    I'm actually looking for a dual-voltage, L1/L2 capable of at least 16A for our BMW i3-REx. Then I can keep the 12A, BMW i3-REx EVSE with the Prius Prime. The 8A Toyota EVSE will become eBay fodder.

    Actually the Prius Prime handles 16A very nicely. Just the 8A EVSE doesn't make a lick of sense in the USA market.

    You know, we need to research the RAV-4 and other Toyota plug-ins. I would not be surprised to find a 12A version which would be a perfect option for the Prius Prime.

    i think you're incorrect on this bob. i thought i read that prime evse was switchable between 8 and 12 amps?

    I know the car is but was under the impression the EVSE was fixed at 8A. I haven't used it yet so I'll check it later. For now, I'm using our BMW i3-REx EVSE which I know is 12A.

    The EVSE that comes with the car is a 12A rated device. The car can de-rate to 8A.

    Americans won't mind carrying around an EVSE. I think some will mind having to buy a second one for work charging if they are using the original semipermantely at home. For the same reason some don't like being told they simply can't plug into any available outlet.

    How did you figure 2.5 cents? I just got solar. I'm figuring 0 cents, since I supposedly got a 100% system, but who knows? PV output is variable depending on weather and time of year. Household electrical demand is variable. Still struggling with if I chose the best TOU plan and how to figure that out.

    1. Expected lifetime of the array in years
    2. Cost to put up in pennies
    3. PVwatts estimate of annual generation in kWh
    4. Cost of a kWh from my utility in pennies

    Then: (2)/lifetime_generation_value gives your answer.
    lifetime_generation_value = (3)*(4)*(1)

    I figure that utility charges will about match inflation and my money/loan will do about the same so I ignore inflation.

    That method ignores THE MAJOR cost of renewable systems - the time-cost of money.

    You essentially gave yourself a 30 year (or whatever) loan for free using that method.
