That has been my understanding. The lithium-ion battery in the 7-passenger version is inside the front center console. The NiMH battery of the North American 5-seat Prius v is where the third row foot well is in the 7-passenger version.

Yes it does. As Offline mentioned, it is located between the front seats in the centre console. The centre console box becomes a centre console tray.

Notice the extra open storage spot ahead of the front cupholder as well. I believe it also loses the slide-out cupholder at the bottom of the centre console that the 5-seater version have.

What does the switchgear do just below the left side dash vent? The US version (mine anyway) has a card slot thing there.

The upper leftmost button there appears to say "HUD," so I think they're heads-up display controls, with the display being projected from the opening at the base of the windshield in front of the steering wheel.

The centre console tray is very shallow and kinda useless for most things.

How do they cool that battery in there? I assume its in some sort of a steel box?

The shuttle-knob that's operated from the right arm-rest is the same sneaky way to get around distracted-driving laws, as on the Mazdas.

    I love it.

    It's the HUD controls.

    1. HUD on/off switch
    2. SET - set the HUD's configuration
    3. up/down - Adjust the height of the display
    4. up/down with HUD and a brightness icon - adjust the brightness of the display

The climate control knob? It's a pretty ingenious way of covering 3 knobs (fan speed, temperature and mode) with just one large knob that's easy to use with gloves on. Most cars have the fan speed as the smallest knob.

One thing about HUD is that unlike the Prius hatch, the HUD does not display the power meter bar which I found a bit disapppointing so whenever I drive my hatch, I look down at the dash instead of just relying solely on the HUD. It does like the hatch show the speed and navigation directions but unlike the hatch the wagon displays the steering buttons. All of them can be independently turned on and off.

I hardly use the HUD on our v because I'm always glancing over at the HSI anyway. It gets used on dark, rainy, city driving when I need to concentrate hard on the road and also keep an eye on my speed. Sacrificing armrest space for 2 extra seats is well worth it.

The UK versions of the prius (hatchback & plus 7 seater) lost the navigation arrows on the HUD when they all went over to the Touch & Go Navigation systems in 2012.

Really? So it's simply just speed now? (Given what kithmo said above)

So no navigation assistance or HSI. The HUD simply displays the speed and nothing else? Well that's useful.. Well I mean it is but not when it used to have more features.

Correct. Just a big text speed, navi instructions, touch trace icon and temperature.

Wait. Those 4 you listed is pretty much everything (except the HSI). Kithmo said you lost the navigation arrows. So what "navi instructions" do you speak of? (There's no HUD option in Canada so I haven't had much experience with it)

I think SmellyTofu means they still have the navigation arrows as well in the Australian version.

Correct.. which I turn off anyway because I rely solely on the speedometer on the HUD. Given Australia's obsession with issuing speeding infringements, I can't do away with the speedo even if I am navigating somewhere.

Ahh. For some reason, I thought you were both in Australia. I need to pay closer attention :).

Another one of those differences between countries.
