OP here giving a quick update: It's now been 2+ months and Toyota still has my car. Apparently the parts aren't just backordered, they're also simply not available.

Car was dropped off at Toyota Service on 19 November.

Did they give you a loaner or rental? My guess is no. I am hearing Toyota's new Tundra is in trouble with junk Turbos, some of which don't make 500 miles. They are not loaning those guys cars from what I hear.

Yes, we have a loaner Corolla from the dealer.

Toyota still has my car. It's now been ~4 months and I'm wondering about the ill effects of my car sitting unused in the dealership lot for this long. Should I be asking them to perform some additional service to ensure the rest of my car isn't degrading from lack of use?

That's what they're telling me. They have one of the two parts needed for the repair. No insight into when the second will arrive.

I would have them drive the car if it is not torn down or at least run the engine if possible to benefit the hybrid battery. The parts availability issue is odd since other v's have been repaired in the meantime. I have a feeling they never really checked other dealer's stock.

Thanks. I'll call and ask them about both topics: driving the car and parts. I take it the other repairs you mention have been other threads on Prius Chat with the same problem?

Yes. In fact a few days after your delay I referenced the reported parts backup. That guy had his brake booster system (master cylinder and pump) fixed free two days later. I will say there are different part numbers for the master cylinder based on tire size.

The 12 volt battery is very likely toast, if they're a typical dealership.

Thanks............toy......................... gen 3 a nightmare when they get older......... my trani finally went out........
Deciding whether to fix or sale...........actually needs engine and trani....... 300,000....... not even close to the reliability of my Camry and Previa.
    Traction battery
    3 water pumps
    blown inverter
    master cylinder and accumulator
    blown head gasket
Once a prius lets you down you are never quite so trusting anymore.....
good thing these thing were done by me or covered under some kind of safety recall....or it would have been many thousands...
Used gen 3 not recommended unless it's low miles and you don't plan on keeping it for a long time.

I called a few other dealers nearby and asked about these two assemblies. Apparently the regional distribution center has them in stock, but because they are not the “CSB part numbers,” the dealer can’t use them in order to get Toyota central to pay for the repair. Does that sound accurate? Seems absurd I’m waiting 4 months when suitable parts are readily available.

You need to talk to the dealer. They may have forgotten about it.

Tried calling my own dealer. My service rep won’t call me back for me to ask the question. At this point I’m not even sure what to ask because whenever I do get the rare chance to talk to him, he says the parts department has no update
