    FYI

The Toyota dealer called today to say they have a fix for the brake noise.

He has to order the parts.

Will let everyone know if this "fix" works or not.

I had the fix (TSB 0081-13) done back in November 2013. Eliminated the dreaded groan and it hasn't returned since.

Last couple of weeks I've been having the rear brake noise on my 2013 so i took it in to get it fixed.

To my surprise, it's worked like a charm. Left the car outside in the rain these past three days with no brake noise in the morning.

Got my car back on Saturday 3/3/2014.
The brake noise seems to be fixed. No noise yesterday morning or this morning.

I am taking mine in tomorrow morning. Apparently new calipers will be installed. It is supposed to take 2 hours. I guess that it would be a miracle if they installed new pads also, but I can always hope.

Does this fix only fall under the 36k miles warranty? My 2012 is experiencing this and it is at 38k miles and just wondering how much this will cost out of pocket.

    Thanks!

How much does it really bother you? There's nothing mechanically wrong with your brakes.

If that's the case, then that doesn't bother me too much. i'll wait for a brake change down the line to replace.

According to someone experiencing a similar issue, it was addressed and noted in a Toyota Service Bulletin “T-SB-0081-13” (Brake Callipers).

At cooler ambient temperatures my idling 2016 Prius V starts howling or groaning as it coasts out the garage. The groaning ceases as I reach the drive.

A/V samples of the howling/groaning sound are available at the links below.

My initial and non-technical speculation was some moving part is not lubricated or warmed up or correctly aligned.
