Prius V Hybrid Battery a suitable donor?

    I've got a 2005 w/ 180,000 miles and a dead HV battery. I'd like to just get another 4 years/50-70k miles on the car.

    So, my plan is to find a lower mileage 3rd-gen donor junkyard battery and swap the entire
    pack of battery modules into my 2nd-gen case.

    I noticed the Prius V HV batteries are slightly less expensive the normal Prius HV batteries, comparing similar years/mileages.

    Are the Prius V battery modules any different then what would work for a module swap with a 2nd gen?

    The modules are identical. I do the "Gen 2 battery built with Gen 3 modules" quite often :). Done a handful for forum members. You are on the right track.

    Full swap of modules is OK.

    Partial swap of only a few modules would not be OK.

    I know you said that you are swapping the entire pack, but I just wanted to clear this up in case other folks are wondering.

    Thanks for the answers!

    Just to give an update:

    I wanted a low-mile, 2014+ battery;

    I wasn't able to find a junk yard battery here locally that seemed on the up-and-up. Quite a few yards were looking for cores - which seemed like a big red flag. Outside of driving distance, lowest cost I found from reputable used parts places were 1400 plus shipping $250+.. so $1650.

    So, made the decision to get a new OEM battery from the local Toyota dealer. I was able to get them down to $2070. And I did the swap myself.

    I think I made the right choice for me. For ~$500 more I got a brand new 2017 built battery. Likely I won't have to even worry about it for the rest of the car's life.

    Feels REALLY good to have a new battery! Drove it 500 miles this weekend!

    Asking for a core is common. Not a red flag.

    Glad your local dealer would sell you a pack.

    Cores are quite valuable even if all the batteries are junk so bone yards almost always ask for a core in return.........I lucked out getting my used battery with 60k on it for $350 and no core but that is very rare.
