New '13 v Three owner - howdy all. Had the car for about a week and a half with only 1 tank fill so far but it hand calc'd out to 48mpg over 360 post-delivery miles. Of course many more tank fills are needed before seeing if this continues.

Regularly see around 60mpg average for work commute - 19 miles each way, city/freeway/city segments that seems optimal for a hybrid. I basically shoot for a moderate ICE pulse to around 40mph followed by an EV "maintain" on city streets. If I drift down 1 or 2 mph by the next intersection no biggie. I try not to use full EV to stretch the battery a bit.

If I hit mostly green lights on the way to the freeway I can see avg mpg in the high 60's to 70's. Then it's a short stint on the freeway around 65mph or so with a final city segment of around another 6 or so miles to my office.

Otherwise climbing hills around where I live drops the mpg numbers way down, but even then it's in the high 30's for avg mpg on those segments. Looking forward to playing the mpg "game" with my v.

Over 16,500 miles, I've averaged 40.2 mpg (45.4 max, 35.8 min). I have a Five with ATP and drive almost exclusively hilly 55mph highway and mountainous 70mph interstate. My wife sees some school traffic, but it isn't a significant chunk of the miles. We use no pulse/glide techniques. We just get in and drive.

Hello we recently purchased our 2013 V (3) as a commuter car.
Some quick stats about our commute and MPG....
From San Jose to South San Francisco ~100miles/day 5days a week via I-280, never take 101
    2 adults + 2 toddlers

    First tank from dealer: 417 miles, 9.6 gallons pumped = 43.44mpg, $3.89/ga for 87octane
    next 3 tanks:
    446, 9.3, 47.96, $3.79
    408, 8.8, 46.36 $3.71
    423, 9.8, 43.16 $3.65

AVG MPG 45.23 and display say 45mpg now

So we are at ~ 1700 miles now since 7/28/13

Driving style: I admit that I have not been "trying" to hypermile. On 280 I drive 75-85mph and it is relatively "hilly". That being said I have always been good at coasting and braking gradually with all my (non-hybrid) cars. I'm sure by driving 70-75mph I can increase the mpg significantly.

Overall I am SUPER impressed with this car. I LOVE to get up to speed and let off the throttle to get into EV mode. MPG actually increases in city driving! Despite what my gearhead friends say I love it. It's perfect for our family and long commute!

    Displayed MPG: 48.2
Tire Size / Wheel size: 16
Seasonal Conditions: (please include A/C usage and temp setting if applicable) No A/C. Dry clear days in the 70s
Hypermiling Techniques: Just driving normal but trying to watch for good gas consumption

Driving was about 1/3 highway at 65 mph, 1/3 country driving around 45 to 50 mph, & 1/3 city.

This is our 3rd fill up. The first one was after the dealership fillup and came out to 54 on display, and 47.77 calculated. I think it was not as full as it should have been. The 2nd tank: Display said 50.4 and calculated was 47.77.

Averaging all 3 fill ups gives me a calculated 47.49 mpg.

We are very impressed and pleased.

    Average Speed: see above
Tire Size / Wheel size: 205/65R16
Tire Brand / Model: Bridgestone Turanza Ecopia EL400
Tire PSI (Front / Back): 35/33

Seasonal Conditions: (please include A/C usage and temp setting if applicable) I adjust A/C and ventilation to stay comfortable. In town generally keep the exchanger closed...not too many good smells in the city!

    Commute Length: 5 miles

Hypermiling Techniques: not sure if this is true hypermiling, but I accelerate moderately (not slow but not jackrabbit) and try to gauge traffic flow to avoid accelerating just to hits the brakes.

    Pretty happy with 50.2 overall!

    Hand-Calculated MPG: 47.4
    Displayed MPG: 48.6
Average Speed: 55, express way driving mostly, elevation change is probably 200 ft.
    Tire Size / Wheel size:16"
Tire Brand / Model: Bridgestone Ecopia (my other 2013 Prius V III is of Yokohama)
Tire PSI (Front / Back): standard
Seasonal Conditions: (please include A/C usage and temp setting if applicable), not much AC, SF bay area is great in the past month. Mostly driving with windows down because of trying to gett rid of the new car smell.
Commute Length: 16 miles a day
Hypermiling Techniques: ECO mode exclusively (painfully slow in starting up from traffic stop) and coast as much as I can without putting people in danger (i.e. coast to a red traffic light and such).
Other: (this could explain why a tank was bad or good or other unusual conditions like a rain storm, new tires, lots of short trips, etc.) When I bought the car, I asked for a full tank of *premium* gas, wonder if that made a difference. I fill half tank of regular now, I will repot back the result.

Pump those tires up to 5# over recommended pressure, you'll get better mileage with no wear issues.

Much to my surprise I broke 50MPG on my latest tank. 50.26 to be exact.
    493.8 miles and 9.83 gal.
Weather has been cooler, is about the only change from previous tanks.

My wife reports hitting a little over 40 mpg at her first fill up since we got the car on Sept. 2. I don't think she's particularly trying hard. Me? I haven't driven except the first 15 miles home from the dealer.

I have now driven 6600 miles (10700 km) and average mpg has climbed to 51.4 (4.6 l/100km) for the last two months. It started at 48.5 (4.8 l/100km) for the first two months. Driving a commute distance 32 miles each way on rural back roads and through small hamlets. I am very happy with the extra space the wagon offers and find the fuel efficiency very good.

Drove 250km to Geelong and back today, all freeway with roadworks limiting the speed from 100 to 80 in some sections. Averaged 4.3l/100km (54 mpg). I was wrapped with this as it normally sits on 5.6l/100km during the week.

Did a 30 mile around town visiting loop on the new tank yesterday. Mostly 30 - 35 mph, tiny bit of 50 - 60 mph, mostly flat. The computer now sits at 50 mpg. Typically in this driving I get 45-47 mpg, especially if I remember to keep some foot on the pedal and not coast too much, charging the battery. Mileage suffers a bit if I get too greedy in EV mode coasting, and let the charge get to the bottom bar or below.

Getting used to warming up a bit in the colder temps, which at this point amounts to about 1 minute or more.

Sometimes I lose a relatively lot of mpg just during warmup, though.

"Warming up" is a waste of gas. Just get in, turn it on and drive. That warms up the ICE just fine.

With my latest fill-up coming in at 45.1 mpg, I finally cracked the 44 mpg barrier overall for my nearly 12,000 miles of driving. A couple days ago temps were down lower than typical this time of year (20's to 40's), and it appears the lower temps don't affect the v as much as the liftback. I also note the v warms up faster than the liftback, likely due to the change in circulating the ICE coolant around the exhaust for faster warm-ups. I am also finding that I prefer to drive in Power mode most of the time, mostly due to throttle response when changing lanes, etc, with no change in mpg's.

It appears my mpg high will be short lived as my overall mpg's will come back down with my impending trip to NY for Thanksgiving. I don't expect to average more than 40 mpg while driving up I-95 at 65-75 mph. But I will do some type of grill blocking to help.
