In 6233 miles I'm at 44.0 mpg. Lotta freeway driving, and then the Oakland hills to knock my numbers a bit. I've been driving my numbers up a bit in the last several hundred miles after putting a bit more pressure in the tires and trying to put some of what I saw at cleanmpg.com to work.

First tank results from up north.

    Year of vehicle: 2012
    Date: 02/29/12
    Miles driven: 485mi (781km)
    Gallons Pumped: 11.35US gal (42.97L)
    Hand-Calculated MPG: 42.76US mpg (5.5L/100km)
    Displayed MPG: 47mpg (5.0L/100km)
Tire Size / Wheel size: 16in
Tire Brand / Model: (stock Micheline)
Tire PSI (Front / Back): 32/32psi
    Seasonal Conditions: temp. 14F to 41F (-10C to 5C)
Commute Length: mostly short trips 10mi (16km) 20% highway 80% city.
Hypermiling Techniques: none (easy on gas), not sure if hipermiling can be use in Prius v at all.

I increased pressure in tires 42/40psi will see what difference will it make.
Do you folks use standard air in your tires or go to a tire shop to up pressure with nitrogen?

Hi guys! I have just got my new V-3 a week ago and did 200 miles to date. The gauge still shows more than a half of the fuel tank. It looks like I am over 40 MPG, but the indicator shows 33MPG, rising all the time though. It was 13 MPG on it when I got it from a dealer. Did not reset it then...

Are you driving in ECO mode?
What average speed are you driving at? Do you have a block heater? Plugging the car in winter helps in engine warm up time. When I plug it in for 40min. engine temp. is about 74F and when engine starts coolant temp. is 104F
    What is your highway speed?

    ECO mode: Yes
    Average city speed: 35mph
    Average highway speed: 72mph
Block heater: Yes, only used if temp below zero.
(Pruis v recirculates exhaust gases to warm engine up faster (2-3 min faster))
    Disappointed with mpg: Yes

Wifes car, so I dont have the details, but:
    - 8500 miles
    - ~42mpg avg, seems to have picked up after 6k miles.
    - Did a little over 100k on a G2 that avg'd ~48mpg.
    - I recall my G2 mileage increasing after 10k miles.

72mph is high; try 55mph and you will see a big difference.

When it comes to City driving I think it depends how you press the gas, braking habits etc.
I posted my results above and based on weather conditions I think my mileage was OK. It will improve as the weather will gets wormer.
But based on the results you posted something is not correct, yours are one of the lowest numbers I've seen.

    As a side note:
I occassionally run the Heater/AC under Auto mode therefore more often than not the AC light is on when the heater is running for dehumidification. The AC compressor may or may not be running. I have it on Auto as in this mode the heater fan will not come on until the engine is warm enough (nice). I usually have to turn the heater fan down because the default high speed fan setting (automatically goes to 4-5 bars) under Auto is so high it drowns the radio out (not nice). Changing the fan speed when in Auto mode turns Auto mode off, which turns the AC off.

    Commute Length: mixed driving 50/50--city/highway
    Hypermiling Techniques: none
Other: Second fill-up; a bit disappointed in this mileage ... but my wife logged all of these miles and she drives a bit more "aggressively" than I do. Still, overall 40mpg is great! :D

If this is your first Prius, your driving technique will gradually change to squeeze out better mpgs. Also, try putting 41 psi in all 4 tires and see what happens. Also, the tires, ICE and running gear have to break-in a bit. My first 2,000 miles showed steady gains. Now, wth nearly 4,000 miles, I average about 48 indicated, 45.4 calculated mpgs.

Other: I broke 40 on my first tank and am thrilled. I figure at this rate I'm saving half my former fuel budget. YEAH! This is my first Prius so I do have a lot to learn.

Do the MPG get better over time?
The car as 221 miles had 61 when I picked it up. The dealer filled it up the first tank its only dropped by one bar.

I have set to display average mpg, its started at 21mpg and slowly is creeping up its now showing 35.6. I assuming that its does not have enough data or should it be higher. It as never gone down always up but I'm totally new to the Prius. The dealer had the car running for about 40-50 minutes the day I picked it up (Saturday) while he went through everything.

    Hypermiling Techniques: Nothing special.
Other: Drove more than usual this past week, so I had to fill up a lot earlier than anticipated; MPG results were beyond satisfactory.

Basically, you just want to stay on 'eco power' mode at all time to try and get the most MPG. The reason is that it will make sure the auto air conditioning in as best eco mode possible. Of course, your MPG will still drop when you have things like defroster going or wanting the recycled filtered air.

Hypermiling is basically basic strategy to get the most out of your car, such as getting above EPA MPG milage out of your car, changing how you drive as well as using the Eco mode.

EV Mode - You would use as a part of hypermiling or trying to force your car to use the battery/electric motor over the gas engine. Problem is, you can't force your car into EV mode at the beginning of a drive due to the startup phase which will kick the motor on to force a warming up of all engine fluids for operational purposes and will drop out whenever your traction battery is lower than a certain percentage or if your car exceeds a certain speed. The Car is set at a governed speed and if you push your engine past 50% mark on the HSI, it will kick over to ICE Engine.

Power Mode - Only use when you really need to push your car, but by doing so, you are lowering your effective MPG as you are forcing the engine to stay on versus having the Hybrid System idle off the engine in the city. On occasions such as getting on the freeway, you would be effectively go into 'power' mode when your HSI is pushed to the 'red bar' to achieve the desired acceleration you want.

In the long run, the Prius Hybrid System will literally change your way of driving, especially the whole Accelerate/Braking, as you want to focus on 'burst' acceleration, and 'feathering', where you don't hold onto the accelerator, but let go of it and 'pulse' your speed, making use of the car's momentum. You will also learn that you will need to 'coast' more, where you take advantage of the regenerative braking to recharge the battery but also just letting momentum of the car to 'glide' your way.

Mileage at 6533, total gals used 143.143 results in 45.64 mpg calculated. Displayed mpg @ 48.4. Driving is non aggresive but not hpermileing.condition are: average temps high in low 80s, and lows in 60s. Flat FL. terrain. About 10% freeway driving, the rest. is 35 to 60 mph. Tire press. is front 38, rear 37. My Last post in this thread was in error when I stated Tire press @ 48 & 47. should have been 38 & 37.
