One of the worries of driving a Prius for several years now in a winter climate was hoping that horrible situation of getting stuck from loosing traction on an icy hill would never happen. The car has Nokian WR tires for winter use as a compromise between the 90% of winter driving when everything is dry and the rest of the time. This past weekend we were parked in a very icy parking lot on a slope. Didn't look horrible going in, but then I watched several cars including a 4WD SUV spin their wheels barely getting out of the lot and taking several tries to do it. Finally it was time to leave and prayed someone wouldn't have to get out and push. The Prius just climbed up the hill on the first try with traction control only turning on for brief fractions of a second. Not a problem. Good tires and low speed torque probably made the difference.
