It may be close. If they don't fix the vehicle totally, or offer you what you want, then see if you can accept a payment and part the car out.

Ouch!! Hope you're OK. That looks to me like it could go either way. When we got hit, they thought it could be fixed till they saw what it was like, which was WAY worse than yours. It probably depends on what's bent under the skin.

That's a little alarming, might tip it:

Not sure. The other guy would be 100% at fault I'd assume?

Yup, that's the visible biggie. And it looks like the pan under the deck for the spare tire is buckled, too.

New quarter panel, rear panel, bumper, depending on floor either repair or replace. I would say repairable as these cars still hold there value it cheaper than buying it off you..going to ask how much mine cost when I get it back today or tomorrow

i'd also be very concerned about the hatch, even though you can't see any damage in the picture.

I was rear ended earlier this year. The damage wasn't as visually extensive as with the OP, but the frame was bent and the bumper and rear panels needed to be replaced. Even though they weren't crinkled up, the repair would have been a similar cost. I don't have the insurance report on me, but I believe it came to between $5500-$6000. Even on my 2011 with about 130k, they did not consider it a total. No problems since the repair, the shop was excellent.

    What a bargain! :)

They going to total it? That's just the estimate for what they can see. Once they get in there, it usually goes up. With that type of damage, you don't want to be left holding this vehicle if there is frame damage. The car did it's duty and protected you in an accident. It gave it's life for you, time to put it out to pasture and buy a new one.

Ask for the salvage value to buy it back. Could be a bargain

I REALLY wanted to do that with ours, but didn't have a place to put it. It would have been fun as well as profitable.
