We are now in our mid-70s and driving less, since we are both fully retired (since 2009). Still have not added that note in the Will about the brakes. But we are looking at replacing the tires. Not only are they getting old, but the have 22,000 miles of wear on them now.
My thinking is, new all-season tires will give better traction in snow this winter. So, we'll get them before the Fall season. Or maybe in 2021.;)

I replace anything that breaks, no matter what the miles... the brakes, however, I'm still on original at 118k miles.

I guess yours isn't "properly" functioning.

I got a 2nd opinion and was told just need cleaning and adjusting. The dealership service dept stated replacement so now I guess I'll have the pads cleaned/adjusted...reading around on this forum still sounds early for issues...guess I'm just "lucky". I definitely am not a rough/hard breaking driver and only use the car locally..rarely get on the highway (use the SUV for that)...

Otherwise fine. It's only driven on local (city) roads and almost never highway. No rough / hard breaking at all. Barely get over 40mph around the city streets.

I just replaced my front brakes on my 2013 Prius C today. The car has about 148k miles on it. They were not totally worn out, but I just decided it was time because things are starting to get rusty on it since it has spent most of it's life in the Midwest. I went with Brembo replacement brakes because brakes are so cheap for this thing. I want to say I spent about $150 on the materials, I did both front rotors and pads. The only struggle I had with it was getting the pads to slide nice in the caliper carrier. I ended up essentially having to do the job twice because the brakes were rubbing and not moving smoothly in the caliper carrier.. When I pulled it all back apart I sanded down any of the rust in the carrier and put some lubricant in those areas specifically designed for brake changes. They are smooth as new now, I could not be happier. The car has been very reliable to this point. I did the spark plugs at 100k and a rear wheel bearing around that same time. Also, replaced a door lock solenoid around that time as well. Other than that, just regular oil changes and air cleaner changes and the car has not needed anything else in all of those miles.
