Does anyone know what is causing this in a 2008 Toyota Prius? It started out doing this only in navigation, but now only the climate works normally.

Welcome. Interesting but unfortunate issue you have there. My first thought would be a bad solder connection somewhere in the display. But if it started just in Navigation and then spread from there, then that's pretty hard to sort out.

Hopefully, someone here has more info on how much of the display is generated within the MFD and what is fed to it. Judging by the price of a new one, I'd guess it's a pretty smart display. It's pretty easy to replace (there are several videos) and you should be able to pick up a used one if that's actually the problem. The patterns actually remind me of a failed GPU in a computer.
