Prof praises the Prius

    Interesting edition of "The Car Show" on KPFK today (LA area radio station).

    Prof. Del Coates who is Industrial Design Professor at San Jose State Uni was co-host. He was a car designer, worked for Studebaker, Ford, Nissan (originated the Maxima name and concept) and also designed Herman Miller office furniture. He is regarded as one of the leading car design gurus.

    He discussed the Prius and said that it was a great design - it was the car he had "been drawing all my life" with its aerodynamic shape and ability to hold 5 passengers. It's such a brilliant design, he owns one!

    He also said that the extra space in the "hidden" area in the trunk might be earmarked for extra batteries, turning the car into more of an EV. Apparently there are some enthusiasts in the Bay Area that have already added extra batteries and a way to recharge them from the grid.

    Very cool -- and really pleasing to see the satisfaction in someone who's been pushing for aerodynamic cars all these years.
