Protesters get out of control, $10.9 million payout

Difficult topic. As a gay man, it makes me very sad, confused, and somewhat frightened that people like Fred Phelps exist. What's scarier still is that there are people who believe in his message of hate. How twisted is a world where a message like that is espoused by someone who considers himself a spokesperson for Christianity. Very sad.
I, too, am a strong advocate for freedom of speech. But I do believe there are limits. It is illegal to yell, "fire!" in a crowded theater when no fire exists. But in these times, it appears that our Constitution is under attack in a big way. I do support Mr. Phelps right to speak his mind. I just wish he would either find compassion or lose his following.
