"People are eligible for a piece of a $45 million settlement if they purchased any lithium-ion, battery-operated item during the 2000s through May 31, 2011.

The settlement is meant to end a lawsuit between major battery companies, alleging they conspired to fix battery prices for more than a decade.

Nov. 29 is the deadline to apply at reversethecharge.com.

According to the website, the final payment amount will be based on how many valid claims are received and how many products were purchased. A final receipt -- proof of purchase -- of those products is not required to file a claim.

Would that apply to the PiP? Paging @bisco ...

We could only hope. Apparently this is only for certain categories of devices. Sorry.

Unfortunately, it's cell phones, laptops, and battery powered tools only.

By the late 2000s, I think about 75% of such batteries - it was certainly well over half - were made by BYD, although some were rebranded by Japanese and American companies. Is BYD involved in the suit?

The following battery manufacturers are the “Defendants” in this case:

    • LG Chem, Ltd. and LG Chem America, Inc. (“LG Chem”)
    • Hitachi Maxell Ltd. and Maxell Corporation of America (“Hitachi Maxell”)
    • NEC Corporation (“NEC”)

Thank you. I thought I'd have heard if BYD were defendants.

Do they make cylindrical cells, not just flatpack and pouch cells? This suit seems to cover just the cylindrical variety, though the claim form does nothing to exclude products with the other varieties.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I think so, but I'm not sure.

I suppose this only applies to North America, or just USA?
