I saw on the Internet somewhere that the Prius C top speed is 76 mph. Can anyone confirm this? I'm looking to buy my first hybrid and new to this experience. I test drove 1 yesterday but only back roads. Thanks!

    Thanks Jim.
I assume you own one and have driven over 76 mph. I'm just hoping it can do 80. Some of our highways post 75 mph speeds and people usually go 80. So that would be all I need.

105? My driving has changed so much since trading in my 02 Acura RL for a 2013 C that I would not dare go 76 now. I would not mess with my stats and hurt my MPG going that fast. Well maybe down a steep hill I could hit 76.

I went 95 MPH in a Gen 2 Prius with the same 1.5 liter Atkinson engine as the c. I have never ridden in a c (or Gen 3, or Pip, my v tops out at 103 MPH)

Down here our freeway speed limits are 110 km/h (68.4 MPH).

The car is pretty cool, calm and collected at this speed and has no trouble kicking up to overtake. I assume I've never done 76, but the suggestion that it can't is just silly. You didn't say where on the 'net you read that, but whoever said it doesn't know this car. End of.

I have taken our Prius C over 75 mph and it didn't seem challenging so I would expect its maximum is far higher than 75.

Been driving Prius c for 1 1/2 years mine is in between c3 and c4 without the moonroof . From where I'm from our highway speed allow is 120km/H but most of the times all the driver exceed this limits . I have driven my C until 185km/H max

Which is 115 MPH for those still using Imperial.

Thanks everyone for sharing! My wife's aunt in Japan has a Aqua(Prius C), but the speed limits are so low over there I couldn't verify with her. I'll see if I can find the source of this information and report back.

I have done 80 - initially because I got so comfortable I didn't notice that I was doing it! From there, I did take advantage of a short (2 miles) burst at 85 to make a meeting on time. No performance issues, but I just scared myself as this is NOT my normal mode! But its nice to know that I can if I need to....

I find my C2 to be a very capable car... it is very easy to cruise in the mid to high 70's(mph) I do it often. I've been over 80 in mine, it's easy :)

Just got done test driving on highway and got to 80 no problem. I'm getting the Prius C 3. Just waiting for financing to go through. Look forward to driving it off the lot!

I took a major road trip in July out to the wild west where the population is low and the speed limits are high. You can do 75 mph all day long. But the MPG's plummet when you go that high. I blasted across the back roads of west Texas and managed to get my worst tank average: 41.9 mpg. On a positive note, when I drove that stupidly fast in my old '07 Yaris I would get under 36 mpg, so still not bad.

Road speed is relative. Wife and I were posted to Germany in our Army days of the late 1980s. The 1st autobahn ride was white-knuckled at 85 MPH. Months later, I was cursing the BMW 318i we bought because it DARED to fail at 135 MH constant (sustained) autobahn speeds - its fuel pump gave up the ghost at that rate of gasoline pumping, as BMW Corporation gently explained to me. Its message: you wanna go that fast, buy a BMW 635i (or whatever the BMW speedy model number was at the time).

So, IMHO road speed is really, really relative to what most of that road's current crop of drivers are used to / have been exposed to.

We have verified our Prius C2 to have a top speed of 97 to 101 mph depending on weather, wind, and line out of OakTree or the roller coaster on the front and back straights at VIR. You can see on various video on youtube. Since those straights aren't that flat its easily expected the true top speed is 105. It may take a way back seat to a CRX but trounces Fart, er, Smart, cars. Yeah, slower than a Fit or Versa as well. hafta give up someting to get 48 mpg.
Last weekend had a chance to investigatehe exit from Oak ?Tree now that its gone and the corner station removed; it allows a much straighter path onto the back straight and besides I needed to check the air induction to the air filter box. I was able to increase the speed at the corner station at the hilltop overlooking the dip to the endand registered 86 mph where before 82 mph. Ordinarily I would expect 102 to 103 when reaching 86 mph there so Car and Driver is likely ruight about top speed. We already know its at least 100 mph. Andnext time we'll check instant mpg at that; wouldn't be surprised if its low 20's.

It seems at a constant 66 MPH I achieve the best MPG of 55. It also seems to be the most comfortable speed with the least amount of road, wind and motor noise.

  20. Yeah 80 is easy to achieve (can usually get there without any or very little red PWR) since it's a small-ish aerodynamic car.
