I am a new writer (but reader for some time). As I am planning to get the Prius Prime in Germany when it becomes available, i still would like to figure out a few things (to be able to prepare).

One question - to owners - I haven't seen addressed anywhere (not even in the manual):
    • what is the exact height from ground to the top of the open hatch (mm / cm would be preferred - but feel free to use any measure you are comfortable with)? This is an important information for garage owners (I think) ... so they can possibily prepare to add some rubber bumpers on the roof.
(preferably, the measurement should be done with an unloaded / empty car to get the highest "maximum" of this height measurement).

    Thank you very much!

Garage celing height: 89.5 inches, give or take. Or roughly 7'5"

With the hatch wide open and something not too heavy in the trunk: exactly 3 inches to the ceiling.

Thank you very much! Now I can check out my carport :) ...

(and this should then translate to approximately 227 - 228 cm. )

My garage is 7ft 5 inches to the top of the track that the garage door rest on when open. So I should have 2 or 3 inches to spare. But still safe just to get use to not having it open when stuff is opening or closing.

Ok, checked ... my carport is not high enough (no big issue, but now I know that I will need some kind of "protection")
    Thanks again for the information!

for people with garage doors, just an fyi: when the hatch is open, and someone hits the garage door opener, it's not the door height, but the control arm that wreaks havoc with the hatch and/or spoiler.

^^^ Truth. However, it is best to take that maximum height of the hatch measurement and check all possible contact points... the garage door opening, the bottom of the door when up (may be lower than garage door opening), the control arm, the chain/belt drive rail, or any overhanging light fixtures, including the door opener motor housing. Check locations that could possibly be contacted with the car either pulled in forward as well as backed in.

My garage door's lowest hanging piece is exactly 7'5" off the floor. The arm is 3" lower but it's between the cars in the two-car area, so I don't care. But if you have a one-car garage the arm will be over the center of your car. Given a 7'2" hatch height, it should touch.

Of course, your garage could well be different.

The arm is just one danger. The major problem is the garage door itself. When the door is fully retracted/wide open, the door takes ~11-12 inches from the ceiling. There are only 3 inches to spare when the hatch is fully open. In my case that's the killer.

The arm is lower than the door. Like I said, at least in my case, the lowest part of the door is 3" higher than the highest part of the hatch according to the 7'2" claim above, but the arm is 7'2".

I would think a pip is the same as a Gen 3 liftback. ( Note: I've never seen a pip so I could be speaking out of my posterior.)

For the Prime, there was 4" added for the carbon fiber hatch. So the Prime hatch should be roughly 4" longer than the Gen 4 hatch, theoretically speaking, and therefore, it should stick up higher than a Gen 4 when open. Again, posteriorly speaking...

i don't know either, i'll measure it again. i'm measuring to the middle of the spoiler. the radius makes it taller there.

There are two additional attachment points for the hatch struts to give lower max heights.
