Years ago, I used to go to a national chain to have my oil changed.

I saw a woman drive off in a car that had its oil changed. The car suddenly smokes heavily, thick white smoke. Blinding level. Like James Bond. If you were following her, you would not be able to see her license plate from 1 car length behind type of smoke. She drove back to the oil change place. I did not see what happened next.

What do you think happened. I never figured it out. Do you think they forgot to put new oil back in? Or maybe the oil filter broke and squirted the exhaust?

    Just curious.

Could be either too much oil that its burning it or none and the engine went pop. Or maybe nothing to do with the engine at all. Is white smoke due to over fueling or misfiring while burning oil is dark coloured smoke?

It's very possible that the oil change place didn't put the drin plug in right and it fell out, leaving the engine with no oil.

Happened to my neighbor in 1997 when he went to Jiffy Lube.

they could also have left out the oil stick and or the oil cap on the top of the valve covers to splash oil onto the headers...

Or maybe an oil line to the cooler went tits up driving out... it can happen.

    I changed oil and filter.
Old rubber gasket from old filter stayed on the engine. When I screwed new filter on it felt fine until I started car and oil spewed all over engine compartment producing smoke.

Another time I wanted to see if the large pliers I had would remove the old oil filter in a particularly difficult to reach location.
I turned the filter a fraction to test grip.
Put in sludge remover and turned on engine to run for 5 minutes.
Again entire engine was covered with oil in just a few seconds.
    Radiator smoked for an hour.

If it was coming out of the exhaust, it's from overfilling........don't ask me how I know :embarassed:.

I'm going to guess blown head or head gasket due to the the white smoke.
Did it have a sweet smell to it?
