A friend drove a Dodge Hellcat (700 hp) to our 50th class reunion in 2016. It ran 11.80 @125 mph in the 1/4 mile. He traded up for a Dodge Demon (840 hp) last year. It ran 9.60 @ 134 mph in the 1/4 mile. I just saw this Tesla which broke those E.T's and speeds.

Hellcat with another classmates 63 Dodge Hemi.

I'd be interested in the insurance costs for both cars.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it. I'd also like to know. :)

The Hellcat gets 22 mpg highway and I don't believe that the Demon even hit's 20 mpg. It requires 100 octane gas so maybe Sunoco 260 racing fuel which is about $70 for a 5 gallon bucket.

200 mph speed rated tires are about $350 each. They are a really soft compound for best handling/traction and they don't last very long, especially the rear's.

This vehicle is probably a hoot to drive but it is also a very big hole to pour your money into.

As Mike and Jerry asked, these costs are probably minor compared to insurance. If I was an insurance company, I would require that these risk takers undergo a psychiatric exam first.

    I don’t understand Tesla’s design priorities.

Fast silent cars that may last 500k miles. Some at the price of a loaded Rav4 Hybrid. The battery refurb guys have yet to emerge but I am sure they will.

There's already at least one I know of. In the Carolinas, and he can even take a smaller pack like 75 kwh, make it into a 90 kwh.

You have to offer something to get someone to pay $120k for the Model S Plaid.

think 1970 Nascar ..... the company that won on Sunday equaled buyers on Monday. Catering to the buyers that want onlockers to think that ride is badass.

Is it any wonder that Tesla U-joints suffer from premature wear shudder, on there high-powered vehicles with air suspension, which increases wear dynamics?

few will ever experience accelerating quick enough to finish ¼ mile in 9 seconds. Adrenaline high for the more youthful speed junkies, & creepy/scarry to us older folk.

My classmate/friend with the Dodge Demon took it to a track that had one Sunday each season where you were allowed to carry a passenger. He asked his dad if he would ride with him. After a 9 second run with his dad aboard, his dad got out of the car and said "Nuts, just nuts" and left the track.

My guess is that they allocated only so much battery production too it. The Model S is getting the new 4680 cells, and the Plaid+ will have about 25kWh more of them than the other models. That's 1kWh more than the first Leaf had total.
