Has anyone been successful at raising the ground clearance on 2016 or 17 Prius and by how much? How did you do it? I know I have seen a question or two on the forum in the past but a search turns up nothing.

This is in contrast to those other who must live on the salt flats, permitting them to lower their cars. They definitely do not off road.

On the serious side, you can purchase Coilovers and raise the car higher than stock. Safe and easy PM me for details

But why would you? The car handles poorly enough as it is! Isn't it better to just not drive over things that might be too tall?

    Easy.....
If you live in a place that has weather, unimproved roads, speed bumps, roadside curbs, potholes, or small furry (or armoured) critters it might be advantageous to have another inch or two of ground clearance.
In the 6 years that I've driven a G3 as a work car, I've bottomed out numerous times while visiting remote sites, and I've had to leave the car in the barn more than once due to standing water.
I've also heard the WHAM!!!! of a critter bouncing off of the chin or clattering around under the car when they dart out in front of me at night (as critters are wont to do....) and snowfall over about 4" (not at all common in these parts) can threaten a Prius' mobility.

Just an inch or two can make a big difference both in fuel efficiency.....and driveability in inclimate weather, over speed bumps and curbs, through standing (NOT running!!!!) water, or whether or not a collision with anything bigger than a squirrel requires a little touch-up paint or a $1,000 trip to the body shop.

There are actually people out there that buy suspension bits to further lower Priuses, so I'm thinking that this can also work the other way around....

    Good Luck!

Thank you RightOnTime I don't plan on doing it but someone on the forum might be interested. I am doing a video on ground clearance and wanted to mention any ideas out there that would raise the clearance.

I think the 2016 Prius handles alright. I see you have a 2010. I hear on the forum from earlier Prius owners and several reviewers that they think the handling is better.

No way - I drove a cross-section of PRIUSes - and the Gen 4 runs rings around the earlier ones.

Gen 3 has better gloveboxes though.

Here in Indiana, we have all that, and my Gen 3 has almost 300,000 miles. So it's been over a little bit of everything!

Including, unfortunately, a piece of truck tire that was about 3" too tall... did $1,800 worth of damage to the underside including some structure. Learned my lesson there!

But having learned that, I like the ride height where it is. :)

I was driving north on I-75 north of Gainesville when I noticed melons falling of the back of a melon truck into the highway. Unfortunately the Prius driver following behind couldn't react in time and hit a melon at Interstate speed. Needless to say, parts went sailing under the car and out the back. The driver immediately pulled over, hopefully to access the damage and collect the parts and not because of a mechanical issue. Not that this happens very often but you do need to be extra vigilant as a Prius driver.

Yup, a Mustang or a Corvette might be a babe magnet, but the Prius is a melon magnet. :ROFLMAO:

Very recently a large racoon waddled out into the roadway as I was driving home from work.
There wasn't even time to take my foot off of the gas - so I centered him up and managed to miss him with my left rear wheel.
I know it was a 'him' because a female racoon this time of year is busy doing other things, AND they're usually smart enough to stop, look, and listen.

OK......so.....since I was NOT driving my work car the racoon lived, and I had $0.00 worth of damage to my truck.
Had I been driving Goofy, it would have been a little different.
Some of the gas money that the Prius would have saved me would have had to buy some plastic, paint and maybe even some other bits.

To be fair, a 3" lift would not have helped the critter that much, but under-panels are cheaper to replace than some of the sensors in the nose of the car to say nothing of the HVAC system, radiators, etc...

    YMMV

Here in the mountain west, the curbs double as the gutter. Generally, moving from a major street to a secondary street, the Prius will bottom out crossing the gutter.

The local Toyota dealer's drive is deeply scarred where Prius' have bottomed out pulling into the service drive.
