News I read today - the RAV4 Hybrid is coming to Australia in 2019. No news of whether it will be 2WD or 4WD yet.

Do you get a choice of which in the RX hybrid there?
Once upon a time, you could choose FWD for the hybrid Highlander, RX, and NX here, but now it's just AWD.

News is sketchy - it was commented on in a reveal by TOYOTA of the new COROLLA.

We haven't heard of the Highlander Hybrid (called Klugger here, but only petrol). The NX hybrid is either FWD or AWD, RX hybrid only AWD.

RAV4 has been petrol (FWD or AWD) or diesel (only AWD), but rumours are they're dropping the diesel.

I just spotted a YouTube by What Drives Us - Tony Schaefer titled "2018 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid". It seems like he likes it.

The Highlander is the Toyota RX sibling, so the parts you don't see are the same between the two.The and NX all gave the choice of FWD or AWD on the hybrid upon introduction here. The Highlander and NX only went a year or two before being AWD only. The RX had the option for longer, but I think it is just AWD now too.

The Rav4 hybrid was always just AWD, but the Prius v may have still been available at its introduction. So no FWD for the Rav may have been a way of giving the v a chance. Then the official MPG values between the drivetrains was slight, and AWD is popular here. It could simply be lower cost to Toyota to not offer the option.

Also in the US, the FWD versions of these hybrid SUVs had a zero tow rating.
