Hi guys. Just got the wife a mega mile 2008 T3 which she loves and is giving about 35mpg on short round town journeys in low temperatures so happy with that.
I'm in two minds now if I want one for my daily commute as I do 126 miles per day of which about 115 are sat at 80mph (I mean 70 obviously) on the mo to motorway.
Wondering how the Prius would fair vs the merc B180 I'm running that gives me 50mpg approx.
    Thanks

Is the Imperial or U.S. gallons?

    A Gen2 or Gen3 Prius won't be getting 50 mpg-US at 80 mph.

There'll be a significant difference between those two numbers.

IIRC, a Gen 2 will do 55 Imp. mpg at 70mph (5.1L/100km or 46 US mpg). It'll be much worse at 80mph, probably worse than your B180 if I'm being honest.

This is for the 3rd generation, 2010 Prius (which is supposed to get better high speed fuel economy) so expect worse than what this graph shows.

Updated MPG vs MPH chart | PriusChat

At 80mph, the 2010 Prius gets around 40mpg US/5.9L/100km/48 Imp. mpg, so the 2008 will get worse than 48mpg.

B180 merc and Prius gen 2 does have quite similar MPG in higher speed. I think 50mpg (Imperial) is achievable because my overall consumption is like that. I drive quite a lot long distance with high speed, mainly 60-80mph.

In theory diesel is better in high speed, but that B merc is too tall to beat Prius MPG in high speed....

Guys, so sorry for the lack of response to date, I'd honestly forgot I posted this and a new job has kept me uber busy.
I have now got myself a 2004 Gen II and can update as follows.
Wife's, which is actually a 2007 T4 not a 2008 T3 as previously suggested, is doing 45mpg round town in the nice weather (and after having the brakes totally replaced and unseized).
My 2004 TSpirt is doing 53mpg on my motorway runs in the nice weather at a dashboard 80 mph (75mph on the GPS).
Both the above are imperial mpg in warm weather with the AC on
    Thanks
