I have a 2008 Toyota Prius and it has sat since Fall 2021, recently rebuilt the hybrid battery with help from people on this site, which we're a big help. The rear hatch worked when parked but when I went to work on the battery I noticed the latch had stopped working I had to open it manually. I have changed the latch with a new latch from Toyota, not aftermarket, and replaced the door oscillator rear hatch trunk, replaced the fuse under the dash even though it was not blown and it still does not work. Anything I have missed? Has anyone else had the same problem? Thanks Prius Chat.

Yes they're all electric locks I don't think any of it's manual there's no cable to the trunk it's electric so you have an '08 or '09 with SKS you have buttons that you touch and they can open but I think the remote has to be live in order for all that to happen

Gen 2 has no cable. manual release requires removing a small plastic cover and rotating a small lever downward to release the latch mechanism.

    No cable. Thanks Toyota.
There are a couple recent threads on PC however that show how to install one. Very simple to do.

You’ve obviously never had to use the PiTA internal lever or you would not say it’s the same as an external cable.

i have used the internal lever, and i'm not comparing it to an external cable. what car has an external cable?
i said 'there is a cable in the trunk', i forgot it was a lever.

honestly, in 18 years, i've only had to open the hatch from the inside a couple times.

Once is more than enough especially when you have a full load of crap in the back that has to be crawled over and moved to get to the lever. Ridiculous design. The above fix that @AndyZaa proposed shows how a simple solution can be implemented.
A release that is external to the trim in the back that hides the lever is what should have been offered by Toyota.
