it would add about 10-20% to the total visible area... and the addition would be around the outer edge where it would add to practical visibility... especially given the wiper's disadvantage of being mounted to optimize for right-side driver configuration.

Imagine going from a 10 inch monitor on your laptop to an 11 or 12 in display. Just 1-2 extra inches diagonal adds an appreciable gain in surface area.

I'm a fairly short person but an extra inch ON TOP of the blade would make a LOT of difference in being able to see more than a few feet behind me.
The extra length on the bottom would be worthless........except to balance what is on the top.

I guess I don't see (no pun intended) or understand what you would gain, if you already can't see what's behind during the main sweep of the rear wiper?

And I guess I don't see why you fail to understand that a wider and taller field of vision would be desirable.
It is a really simple concept.

Undo the rear hatch access panel and move the arm and wiper arm 180 degrees. Helps for the lhd market. Also looks cool. Imo 20140628_112403.jpg 20140708_231954.jpg

So then what happens if you accidentally turn the wiper ON ??

I believe it turns the correct way since the motor is now rotated. Other wise you should just remove the wiper all together.

Maybe it has something to do with the "woofer" that he mentioned. I have no idea what that is.

Twas a typo.... it works, it operates from right to left now vs from left to right as per stock.

^ I haven't (yet) figured out if the rear wiper blade can be detached without special clever tools, or even if the arm can be pivoted away from the glass for more than 2-3". When I take Ms. Mila for her 5K mi service, I hope I can find out from the friendly mechanics. They may also know if a larger blade could be fitted, because I am sure other people will have been asking the same question.

It easily slides right out. Less than $10 replacement but has to be from Toyota whether dealer or online parts retailer Ala trd sparks. Not Joe blow parts store.

Several months ago I took a chance on this rear wiper from big-river-online:
TRICO Exact Fit 10-B Rear Integral Wiper Blade - 10"

Not life-changing, but a worthwhile upgrade over the puny 7.6” (19.3cm) Prius C wiper.
Photo of my dirty window shows the increased coverage.
It’s a good match, aesthetically, for the stock wiper but is a bit too long out of the box.
I needed to saw about 1/2” (1.3cm) (or was it 3/4"?) of plastic off the “top” end of the wiper,
and then snip 1/4” (.64cm) of rubber off the same end of the blade so it wouldn’t hit the rear roof spoiler.
Of course, that left nothing to restrain the 9 ¾” (24.8cm) rubber blade at that end.
So I pushed a thin piece of stainless steel wire through the “lower” end of the blade and around the plastic.

It loses points because the stiffening strips for the blade are showing some rust, but
it’s still cleaning well after several months, so I also bought the 12” version for our old Highlander.

Can't tell how much it cleans vs stock.

Yeah, the picture of the rear window isn't too helpful.
I considered taking before and after photos, but had a hard time getting the lighting right to show much of anything.
Because the new blade is over 1" longer on both ends (even after trimming 1/4" off one end), I think it makes a noticeable difference. YMMV.

Yup - but check the rear blade of a "C" sometime. It's an embarrassment to Toyota and a frequent annoyance.

I occasional drive all manner of Prii and other Toyotas as part of my job, and the Prius c is cute, and responsive, and will cruise at 80 mph without batting an eyelid; the Yaris reminds me of driving a Mini (remember those? - I had one when I lived in the UK), but I think I still prefer my Gen II. The Yaris has a massive single wiper which sweeps across, shoving everything out of the way, on a pantograph arm which takes some getting used to! ;)

There are a few posts on page one of this thread that mention applying Rain-X. I can "sorta" vouch for this. But man you all are going to laugh at this. Years ago when I was a kid working at the dealership a detail guy was applying wax to the windows. I thought that was the weirdest thing to do that I had ever seen.

Then drove one in the rain. Seriously - I didn't even need to use the wipers. Ever since I have applied hand wax to my front and rear windshields. Water just runs off. Don't get me wrong, I still use my front windshield wiper. Sometimes it just rains too fast too hard - but the rear wiper? I think I've turned it on once since I've owned the car.

It's ok - go ahead and laugh, but someday when your sure nobody can see you. Try waxing your windshield and wait for the rain. You'll see. :)
