I don't think these batteries can handle very cold or hot temperatures as well as standard OEM or Optima batteries. From looking at the specs, it seems to have much less tolerance than the Optima 817 battery.

There tolerance for the use in the Prius is the same. The PriusOEM battery is an AGM battery as is the Optima.

The Prius does not use the 12 volt battery for turning the engine so does not require a starter battery. The Prius battery is also not under the hood so does not get cooked by the engine as in most cars, it is in the air conditioned cabin. If the air conditioning is not used in hot climates it is the HV traction battery that is likely to give problems.

The gel versions of the mobility batteries do not work so well in very cold or hot temperatures something covered in the post, but the normal battery works well in the high and low temperatures. As with any battery that contains water there is a greater possibility of drying out in high temperatures.

However the batteries are totally sealed and only vent when internal pressure gets to high. These batteries are used in much more rugged stress situations in mobility chairs and scooters than the Prius battery is ever likely to to see.
