Hi I played russian roulette and bought a site unseen car from online . Here is what the wrong and what I have done.

    Wrong :
    Car not starting
    P lock malfunction
    Hybrid system malfunction
    12 v battery dead
Ex traffic police car lots of custom wires

    Repairs tried :
    New battery 12 volt
Check majority of fuses and relay. Associated with park mtr ensured all cables and connections are good.
Most of extra wiring added was for accessories that is now disconnected and removed.
    Cleaned the earthing points.

    Net results:
All the electric on the car works.
    P lock malfunction
    Hybrid system malfunction
    Car not starting .

    Mileage 70k
Oil, coolant , etc normal levels

I have tried 3 working12 v batteries already so please don't suggest that. I keep checking the voltage on the 12 v regularly.
Currently brand new battery is on 13.0 and recharged.

I noticed the P button led remains off. Regardless. So I changed the P button but still nothing .

When I put the car gear lever in B position i hear a beep which makes me think the Gear shifter assembly is some what working.

Question:. I see that my gear lever is free or I can move it in drive or Reverse even when the car is off. Is that normal. ?

Waiting for my vcii cable to get the dtc but none on ordinary obd scanner

Ps.. this is my 7th prius and I already have fully working V . So I know a few things about these . But this one is next level challenge for me ,☺️

Did you try hooking up all 3 batteries together? :p

I was thinking about saying get CEL codes and see what they pin point to but since you know about the 12v battery thing, you put probably checked and there’s none so I’m clueless as you.

The prius is a HEV and the state of health of both battery systems is paramount. You've got the 12v resolved so what about the HV? Need to read the codes and reliably read sub-codes. AFAIK only techstream will read sub-codes. My guess is the SOC of the HV is too low or just plain faulty.

I will share some pics. Basically it had lights on the roof and wires going through the pillers .
Some extra set of disconnected wires which I found in trunk. Not sure what were they for.
Also a few other wires that I see routed through the back of stereo but don't know what is that for. May be they had some computer plugged in as I noticed some mounting holes on the dash

What did you pay for it? How many miles on the car?

Well if you know all about Prius you must know you have to harness all the codes the car is throwing it will tell you exactly why its unhappy.

Probably a bad hybrid battery. If you have the red car icon in the upper left corner of the mfd its the battery.

You need a techstream capable obd code reader. Thousands of posts about Techstream here.

use search forums tab up top search

    Techstream

    for your choices.

Suffice to say I bought it cheap so it is worth the hassle.
    71k miles

I have made progress and will update here once issue is fully resolved .

Issue is with fuses and relay and not the batteries (in my case).

I was wondering if you came up with any solution? I am in a very similar situation and suspicious about the fuses and relays.

It was a bad hybrid battery. Replaced the battery and fixed the issue.

Hi there, I am having a similar problem to yours, but in my car the P lock malfunction error message only shows when I turn on the headlights.
I scanned the car with TIS and the only error that comes up is C2307.

Do you remember what error codes did you have?

    Many thanks!
