Reconditioning Experience with Hybrid Automotive's Prolong System

    Another question for Todd would be if the Gen 4 Li-Ion battery modules & the PiP battery modules are compatible. I would suspect PiP battery packs will eventually start failing outside warranty,

    That has always been my plan from the start. The reason it didn't happen this time is I just spent 4 weeks sitting on a jury.

    The problem is if you don't leave yourself a couple days of resting time (for a bad module to discharge and go out of balance), a bad module won't show itself until you're well on your trip.

    Jury duty.....I say guilty for wasting your time.

    It will still get over three days of rest prior to using for 100 miles each ways to our son's. If It shows a problem before that we'll just take the Yaris.

    Jury duty was not a waste of time. It's a foundation of our judicial system and a civic duty. If everyone had your attitude a trial by a jury of our peers would be impossible. In my case I'm now retired so it did not really interfere with anything.

    Here jury duty consists of one day on call or one trial. You can ask for a six-month delay in serving. During the jury selection process they ask If it creates any kind of hardship, conflict with a trip, upcoming appointments, etc. If it does you generally get released at that point. This was a rare occurrence that a trial would last this long. It just happened to be an assault and rape trial that took a long time. Fortunately the jury consisted of a great group of people so even the two days of deliberations were handled well by all.

    Last year my mother in law served on a jury where it took over 4 months to reach a verdict :eek:.

    Over those 4 months she described some of the inefficiency in the judicial system.

    While civic duty is important, working to reduce inefficient operations to minimize impact to citizens should be considered ;).

    It would also allow judges to see more cases(y).

    I absolutely agree the system has problems and we should be working to improve it. That the system needs improving, though, does not provide a legitimate excuse for shirking our responsibility to be a part of it.

    Back to the Prius. It's at 229v after 9 hours on the final charge. The car itself looks much better with the cleanup I've been doing on it while I wait. Not as good as a professional detail job but not bad for me.

    Oh, what a tangled web we weave. My wife took one look at the Prius last night and I hear, " Can you do that to my car soon?" At least I already have enough of all the compounds, waxes, black trim restorer, headlight restorer, wax, clay bar, interior cleaners, etc. to do the job. Only thing I have to get is the white touch up paint pen.

    Thank goodness she's driving a Yaris sedan and not a Suburban.

    Question: If the battery is now better balanced will it accept the final charge more quickly than previous charges? After 21 hours it's gone up 3v in the last 4 hours and is now at 241v. That's a much quicker increase at that level than I've seen before.

    To my mind this makes logical sense. That is what I would expect to see.

    My experience is that the voltage increases by roughly 1 volt per hour, so you're looking good.

    I would expect that you will not see further rise in the next 5 hours, so can finish it then.

    You were almost spot on. After the rapid rise I decided to let it go at least 30 hours. It took 8 hours to go from 241v up to 242v but it did.

    I'll wait until midnight and turn the charger off. It should be settled and ready to drive when I get up in the morning.

    I'm obviously still in the beginner's stage of learning this thing. Thank you all for the help.

    Fired the car up this morning and gave it a very short run. It's fine. The benefit of the process will show up heading over the Cajon Pass on Christmas Day. I'll report the driving experience then.

    I do have a couple of things I'll mention here as tips before I forget. I didn't have a problem because I have a 6 month old 12v battery but if yours is suspect you might want to:

    1. Disable the SmartKey system before you start the process.

    2. Make sure all interior lights are switched to a setting where they're completely off so opening a door or hatch doesn't turn on a light when they're opened during conditioning.

    3. Don't just leave the hatch open for all 4-6 days of the process. It still turns on the open door light on the dash.

    It might be overkill but it never hurts to err on the side of caution.

    I do 1 (on one car, the other doesn't have SKS) and 2 and also just put my 12 V on my smart charger for the duration.

    It was worth the mention as it never hurts to be reminded these things.
