A loan can be a smart move. E.g., to have transportation to a job where a bicycle or public transport does not go.

May I ask if you bought your Prius with cash ?

I will pay 50 bucks when it happens again and less than a half days worth of work which should get me 3-6 months if not it longer with a bit of luck.

One day I will try the load balancing and possibly the rehydration thing.

It was not a gen III, the guy (Eric) told me that he changed his listing title after he ran out of gen II modules, so I didn't read the listing wrong after all.

im not sure where you live but where I am you get offers of 1/2 of your asking price no matter what the car is worth, car lots take payments and charge high interest so people think they are getting a newer inspected car for little money down but have payments for 5 or more years..the red car I have pictured below has been on craigslist for $4500 for 3 months, my best cash offer was 2700..nothing wrong with the car I drive it every day..people have no cash anymore and if they do they want the best deal they can get and to them that's almost free.even if the car had a brand new $3000 battery does not make my car worth $7500 does it? and if I have it freshly painted and new tires would it make it worth $10,000 of course not..a car is worth what someone is willing to pay and not a dime more

Head down to your favorite used car lot and see what $2000 buys

BTW I paid $2000 for the gold one pictured below,2005 171000 miles, runs drives 53 mpg drove it 108 miles home...needs paint, inside cleaned and new fobs..so you can find them running cheap.

Do you mean the car in your avatar that looks orangish ?

If so, you paid $2000 for a car that has gone through hell, and you have no idea when the battery is going to die. If OP has a decently maintained car, he can pay the same $2000 and end up with a nice car good for another decade.

And I'll say it again, can't pay what you haven't got or feel it's worth.

Also, let's say I keep repairing my prius the crappy way by simply replacing one cell at a time for 50 bucks and that $50 repair lasts 6 months which is 2 repairs a year = 100 bucks times 5 years = 500 bucks. 10 years = 1000 bucks.

I most likely will not even have the car in a few years.

Other things are bound to happen like inverter failure etc. Not worth paying 2k to me for an 11 year old car even if I had the money, WHICH I DO NOT!

If it works out that way and you do not mind the failure rate, then sure. Personally, I expect the 6 months between failures to be wildly optimistic.

    All the best,

Maybe so, but I am a poor American and have to deal with it the best way I can.

I don't think I will even be alive in 10 years, so no big deal for me.

I am just trying to make 'til the end when Jesus comes to take his people home.

no the gold one and all used cars have gone through hell just because they are on a car lot it means nothing..they are bought at auctions 20 at a time, you have no idea when your battery will die or when your motor will blow up..its a machine it will break just like you don't know when you will get a flat tire or be in an accident..i don't care what it looks like only that it runs, everyone drives a used car, they are only new and perfect when they leave the factory

I have never walked onto a used car lot and never will, why pay retail for a car they know nothing about and bought at auction then cleaned up so it looks newer, they offer you black book trade in on your car that is paid off then resell it and triple their money...I find my cars from private owners who know their history, again cosmetics don't matter to me one bit so if they do to you run out and buy a new car every year or two if you can afford it, I cant and most people cant that's why sites like this exist so people can help each other keep their cars going..I have no idea why this a is so hard for you to understand..NOT EVERYONE HAS 30,000 FOR A NEWER CAR AND MOST PEOPLE DONT TRADE THEM IN UNTIL THERES A PROBLEM

Don't know how long it will last but so far the car is running better and stonger than before any of the of the the previous repairs.

Not bad for 50 bucks DIY.

    UPDATE:

My 50 dollar fix lasted a year and 3 months and the only reason it failed again was because I didn't replace the cell next to it that had suffered heat damage. That cell just failed me a few days ago.
