After a lot of driving today the red triangle, VSC, and exclamation lights came on. Checked codes, p2601 which was there for a while prior, and p0446. Oil was pretty low when these came on. Right tire is pretty bald and needs replacing, hoping that's the culprit, but have a bit of a drive tomorrow and want to rule out anything else. After starting the car it doesn't want to shift into anything but neutral, until I turn it off and back on again. If I clear the lights, they come back on almost immediately, within a minute of the ICE running, even if parked.

What's vehicle service history? Any chance you had an inverter cooling pump recently replaced?

Can't get the car to shift into anything other than N now and I'm hesitant to let it sit and drain the HV to see if the ICE will kick on.

nothing's moving. AC won't even turn on. engine's seized. going to try unseizing by removing spark plugs and putting oil directly on the pistons and turning with a breaker bar but I'm expecting replacement.

    Your Engine isn't seized...

The error codes you have has put the car in safe mode until they are resolved. First disconnect the 12v and let the system restart and see if error codes come back just as quickly... Next, do a Google search on your error codes including the word Priuschat so in your case you'd do a search for:

    priuschat p2601 P0446

and then read as many threads as possible and then comment on whichever thread is most popular that describes what you're planning to repair so other people on that thread have a chance to update the thread with more information.

Alternatively, someone like @SFO might come along with the Toyota repair manual work up that has step by step diagnostic for those codes.

Is this any different than clearing the codes with OBD?

Sounds like there could be additional codes being left on the table, which OBD2 device or app are you using to check for DTCs (codes) ?

For DTC P0446, have you checked the low hanging fruit, like the gas cap (2 clicks) and associated o-ring? (try some spit or silicon)

Not sure if you found this thread helpful : P0446, Techstream TBP Fail, and CCV Replacement | PriusChat

Here is the workup for DTC P0446 and P0441 : https://attachments.priuschat.com/attachment-files/2018/04/143457_cip0441.pdf

Here is the workup for the DTC P2601 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Repair%20Manual/04pruisr/05/2054m/cip2601.pdf

Curious if the replacement inverter pump was OEM or aftermarket, and where you purchased it from?

Wondering if you might have a HV ground leak given the greanbean thing you put in there.

It might be worth adding that the lights came on at the exact moment I was making a 90 degree right turn without slowing down enough

OEM pump ordered from Toyota. No idea if there's a ground leak in the HV or how to check but my gut says that's not it considering how long ago it was installed and the fact that I was driving a lot today with little oil. It might also be worth nothing that the lights came on at the exact moment I made a sharp right turn at too quick a speed, which given that balding tire, might explain the VSC light. I also ran over some wood fragments on the highway at 60-70mph the other day with that tire so maybe there's some integral damage the system is trying to protect me from?

I was able to force start by holding the button for a minute but it doesn't seem to be working again after that initial attempt. Then tried the lock/unlock trick and it cleared the rest of the lights but CE and red triangle and engine still won't come on. This method also yields no results on subsequent attempts.

pressed the brake down very hard and was able to get it started, drove around the block, lights quickly came back on, after parking it then wouldn't come on again. going to have someone stand behind to see if the brake lights come on to rule out brake light switch.
