Just wanted to chime in on reliability. I accidentally curbed my 08 prius. the alignment did not get jacked up. That speaks much to me about its build quality. I have had Pontiacs in the past which would lose alignment if you just dare looked at it funny.

We have updated results for the Prius to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: no repairs reported yet, sample size one car (!) below the minimum for a full result

    2008: 11

    2007: 19

    2006: 26

    2005: 14

    2004: 32

All are much better than average.

A big thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information.

We'll also have a result for the 2010 in November.

We have updated results for the Prius to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

    2010 (Gen III): 8

2009: still no repairs reported yet, 26 participants

    2008: 12

    2007: 19

    2006: 34

    2005: 28

    2004: 38

All are much better than average.

We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the Prius, the percentage with no repairs is about 78 for the 2005, 68 for the 2006 (last year of the warranty), 84 for the 2007, and 93 for the 2008. The percentage of lemons is less than one for all years.

A big thank you to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information.

Make that 742, including 128 for the 2010 alone.

Among the Gen IIs, especially need more 2004s--many previous participants have now traded theirs, often for a 2010. It's important to have plenty of 2004s, because they'll experience any Gen II problems first.

I have an old Mercury Topaz which also is like those Pontiacs, it won't hold an allignment worth beans, but I have to give it to Ford for making a technically solid vehicle, even if it eats tires for breakfast.

But, boy, the Prius beats them all. What a car.

Recently enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful. Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May, with a preview for participants soon.

I would like to see this repair incidence (excluding tech service bulletins) normalized to a dealer charge amount -- say $200.

Thanks for compiling all this info! I'm a proud new owner of an '05 with 92k miles, and it's nice to have a resource like this so I can guess what I'm in for in terms of repair.
