whenever it is really cold, o degrees or colder and i use my remote
starter, my 2011 Prius starts for about 1-2 seconds and then shuts down.
if go into the car and manually start it stays running with no
problems. yesterday i tried remote starting it after about 5 hours sitting in
-15 degree temperatures and it worked fine but that was after i already manually
started it in the morning cause the remote starter didn't work.
anybody have any ideas why this is happening? it goes against the whole purpose
    of having a remote starter.

What type of remote starter do you have installed in your '11? OEM, after market and model.
The more information you will provide, a better and faster answer(s) will come in your way.

I bought the remote starter from the Toyota dealership and they installed it. so I assume it is
    OEM.

Well, it is an ongoing common problem at very low temperatures.
Many users have the same complaint and seems that there is NOT a cure for it yet.
My advise would be the Toyo Stealership service under a warranty claim.

Odd. We just had a bout of 5-15 degree temps, and my remote start worked fine.

Was there a distance factor when you tried to get it to work? I know sometimes it didn't always start, but that may have been my not hitting the key fob correctly (two short than one long hold until you see the lights flash again).

so i finally took my Prius into the dealership for this problem. the problem is the manifold,
it is not air tight, they need to replace the gasket and the manifold. because it is not air
tight (there's a leak in the gasket) it shuts the engine down when its being remote started,
because it knows that being remote started that there is no one in the car to monitor it
    so therefore it shuts down.

This Fix doesn't make any sense. I don't think the dealer has a handle on this.
There is a real specific temperature where the Toyota OEM Remote Start does not work. Such as Car will remotely start at 10 deg F, but won't start at 9 deg F. This should have nothing to do with the Intake Manifold and Gasket. From everything I have read out there, it is the Remote Start Module inside the car, which is faulty. Instead of -22F cutoff, it seems to be around 9-12 deg F cutoff.
This module is under the dash on the Drivers side.
I was wondering if someone could fasten a Heat Pack to this module and see if the Vehicle will start at temperatures below 5 deg F. These Heat Packs are the ones you stick in your Gloves or Shoes, and also used in skiing or outdoor events.
I was thinking of trying this, but I have to get the time and the low temperature, though it was 1 deg F here this morning and by the way the Remote Start did NOT work. Brrrrrr.

After 3 trips to the dealer - nothing showing up on diagnostics, they determined the throttle body was gunked up.
    We shall see...

    Sounds like BS to me.

HOWEVER, my friend has a GM product with OEM remote start - if there are certain faults stored - in her cars case, anything to do anything with the throttle body, it will not allow the remote start to operate.

She came over before winter, and I cleaned her throttle body very thoroughly, erased the codes from her PCM, and sent her on the way. Remote start has worked flawless ever since and the idle is back to normal.

Dont know if Toyota sets similar parameters or not. But maybe its possible the OP's intake manifold was leaking or something, set a too lean code or misfire, and it deactivates the remote start?

2 degrees out, remote start did not work (engine started up, then immediately shut down).
    I'm at a loss....

Dealer just replaced remote start computer. Will have to wait until next winter to find out if this is the fix. My dealer (PAULY Toyota in crystal lake il) has been great throughout this ordeal (which hopefully is done).

I need information for the 3 pin L79 connector.
There is no 3 pin L79 in Norwegian cars, and I can not finish the installation of PT398-47110.
Is there anyone who wants to find out what signal the
two wires has on your car? A green wire and a purple wire in the white 3 pin L79 connector located in the foot break / cowl area..
    Please help me.....

Yes, this is regarding the installation of the pt398-47110 TVIP V4 installation. Looks like only cars for the American market has this 3 pin L79 connector... And it is not possible to find in the Electric wiring diagram for my car because it is not mounted... I need to know what the two wires is coming from, so I can connect to the same signals on my car...
This 3 pin connector is allso in use with the TVIP V5 alarm...
    Probably all American Prius?...

    @ bisco
My remote start would only malfunction during extreme cold. Otherwise, works flawlessly.

Nice. Mine is working perfectly now.
I use it to cool down with the A/C now days. .. I'll have to wait a few months to see how it works in extreme low temperatures...... ;-)
