Remove steel pieces in transaxle castings?

Has anyone done this on the Gen2 T/A? I can't see anyway to get the steel pieces out without ruining the casting, but I'm just an amatuer(sp?) so hoping for some ideas or helpful info.

 

Here's a couple pics - it's hard to show in pictures that there's no access to the other side of these parts, be easier to show in a video; maybe I'll run it by a local rebuilder and see what they say.

 

That's a good video, have watched it a few times; they don't say much about the steel bits though, nor do they remove any of them. (I wonder if the big guy has done any other videos on his homemade 3-phase generator, I'd like to see what that thing can do.)

Sooner or later I'll take the castings to the scrap yard, where they will knock the price down if the cast aluminum has steel mixed in with it; hoping for a better tool than a sledge to remove the steel pieces with 8^).

 

One would think so, but, the other side of the trans from that black pin is solid aluminum...see pic.

I know what you mean in mentioning a hex key, it reminds me of that, too, but that's not what that is; I think that it was 'robotically staked' there, or something.

 

I've got several of those, (but on a malware-infested drive at the moment) covering the Gen1 thru Gen3, all of which I found rewarding to watch. I'll have to go back and review what's there now that my focus has changed

True, that, as well as learn what I can along the way; was just hoping that I was missing something in seeing the way to disassembly.

 

It's definitely not going any where, that's for sure!

 

Thanks, I'll probably just take the cash penalty rather than risk catching schrapnel from hammer hits. However, if I had a cutting torch I'd definitely give that a try.
