Seems sort of odd that someone who lives in California and registers their car in California doesn't get the rebate just because they purchased the car out of state. As if where the car was purchased has any effect on California air quality, which is what I thought the rebate is all about. Unless some car manufacturers still have different emissions equipment for cars sold in California? I remember it was that way many years ago but I thought that is no longer the case.

The original L2 charging station for the 2012 PIP was on the left wall of our two car garage. The right side of the garage space is occupied by a Yamaha waverunner and my motorcycle. Once we had two Primes, the only way to charge the second car was to back it in the driveway, blocking the first prime, so rather than move the 220V line, I had a new line on the opposite wall run to almost the garage door, so the second Prime is always charged outside (wife is bugging me to sell the waverunner so she can park hers in the garage). The second L2 can charge either car.

I'm surprised your wife hasn't claimed the garage parking spot and make you park outside.

I was thinking the same for our 2012 PiP. Prime didn't do it for me. Model 3 wasn't quite it either. So we still have the PiP and it is doing fine. Things are changing fast. Your car is great - keep it. In 4-5 yrs, you'll have many more options for a replacement and you'll be glad you waited.

My wife and I stopped thinking about money and swapped 2014 PiP with Prime in Nov 2016, and replaced 2013 Leaf with Prime in April 2018. We are still in awe of Primes' efficiency and comfort every day. No regrets. Do what your heart tells you. Life is too short to fret over little things.

If you are not going to fret over money, get one of the Teslas - 3, S, or X.
